Took Chris to the doctor today and they have been having serious issues since the hurricane. Anyway the waiting room is super crowded and I can just sense that Chris will lose it soon so I ask if we can wait in one if the rooms. I get doubtful face and then I say "he's autistic and doesn't do well waiting and much less when it's crowded like this." I'd seen someone else do it before and they let them go wait inside. What I wasn't expecting g was what happened next. The nurse came in and took his temperature and said the doctor would see him next. I said it really wasn't necessary but they said they didn't want him to get agitated. That he was already sick. No need to make him feel any worse. So we skipped 6 people and were out in less than an hour. I kinda felt bad but at the same time really appreciated what they did. It's a big deal to me because I generally don't mention Chris's autism anywhere. DS was shocked when I told him. So yay me. And yay our doctor!
Re: So I played the "A" card today
In our world, one of the best things we can have is an understanding Dr. I tried a number of different Dr's at our only Pedictric clinic in town and finally found one who truly understands my sons. I will only take ds2 to him and ds1 for any appts other than sick ones.
Way to advocate for your child. You may feel bad, but would feel worse it your son had melted down. So you saved the other people (and yourself) from that wonderful experience

Notes:
I get that you feel bad about 'skipping' but good for your doctors office for taking initiative and making your day a little easier!
We switched pedi's and the difference it made in our life has been amazing. We left an 8 doctor (or so) group practice where we consistently had to wait an hour, get to the room wait another 30 mins, to a 1 doctor practice (with other locations incase he is out) and we wait on average 5 mins. And they take walk-ins.
