beginning to eat solids-how much to feed?

I can't believe I don't remember how this goes...

Our second LO has just begun solids this week! I gave her 1 tablespoon of rice cereal tonight, as I have for the past two nights, but she seemed like she wanted more after we were finished. How much cereal should I be giving her right now? I mean, we JUST started.

Can someone help me remember?

  • My pedi said to let baby take the lead.  DS gets to eat as much as he wants per "meal," which is generally 2-4oz.  When we first started solids he would do 1-2oz.  I would let your LO have at least a few more tablespoons during each feeding if she wants more.

  • I was told by DS's Pedi that BM...or formula not sure which your LO gets.....should be the main source of nutrition and that solids right now shouldn't replace a feeding until they reach 1. I offer DS BM first and when he's done with that I offer him 1-2tbs of solids. He never takes more than 2.

This. I always planned solid meals for about 1 hr after BM/formula. Then I just let LO lead and fed until cues that she was full (looking away, getting distracted, etc...not opening mouth is usually a late sign that means LO is a overfull)

This, sometimes we feed solids only 30min after a bottle. My LO eats about 6tbs (3oz) at each feeding: breakfast, lunch, and dinner! + 30-32oz of formula per day.

In the beginning we would offer LO 2tbs (1oz) of food at breakfast and dinner. Then we started lunch about 2weeks after that
