Advice for FTM on AHCCCS???

I want the least intervention possbile, and birthing classes, but there is SO MUCH information everywhere I turn...that I get overwhelmed and can't make a decision!!!

Does anyone know if AHCCCS covers midwifery in a hospital?

What classes are best on AHCCCS?

I live in the NW valley in Sun City....not the best place for children or mother-to-be options lol

Re: Advice for FTM on AHCCCS???

  • Im on AHCCCS also and from what I have researched they do NOT cover any type of midwifery. They should have assigned you a Dr (if you aren't happy with the person they gave you ask for a list of other options) the first time I was on AHCCCS I got a huge book in the mail that listed all the Drs that accepted AHCCCS. I didn't get one this time. If it helps I'm at Desert West ObGyn on 59th and Thunderbird and I absolutely love them. Im delivering at Banner Thunderbird (in a matter of days) and based on what I have researched and heard from previous patients B.TBird is extremely mommy friendly :)

I beleive AHCCCS covers the classes if you take them through the hospital, there is a certain # to call to schedule if you are on AHCCCS. If you have any questions feel free to PM me! If you haven't got a place picked yet I highly suggest looking into them! BTW, I live in NW Glendale :) Good Luck!

  • My cousin just had a baby in July and was on AHCCCS.  She saw a certified nurse midwife from conception to delivery (in a hospital) and all was covered by AHCCCS.
  • Really?! I am also new to AHCCCS and was told by a rep that they do not contract with any midwives. What hospital was she at? I would love more info please.

  • I know that here in Tucson AHCCCS covers me going to a birthing center and I would have a nurse-midwife. I really want a natural birth and I was looking into going through El Rio which is a hospital with a birth center. My husband and I chose to go with North West Hospital and I company called Happy Beginnings and they help you fill out everything for AHCCCS and they turn it in for you. Your dr appointments are even done right there at the office and they give you a list of dr. that work at thereat the clinic.
