Parenting after a Loss

Rolling over...

When did your LO start consistently rolling over? Also,if LO didn't like belly time, was there a point when that changed?

DS hates belly time.. Cries within a minute of being on his tummy.. But, sits p great and has really good neck support since he was 2ish months.. Anyway, he's not rolling either.. He'll scoot around on his back (that's how he moves all over in the crib), but doesn't ever roll, or try to roll.. We work n it, but he has no interest.. Just wondering how others are doing/did do at this age!

TIA!

Re: Rolling over...

  • DS is showing no signs whatsoever of rolling over. He hates tummy time also, and like your LO he has good neck control. He's a chunky guy with a big head, so I wonder if it's just taking him longer to get the strength to move all that baby chub.

DD, on the other hand, was a tiny little peanut with a tiny little head, and she was rolling consistently both ways at 4 months (3 months adjusted).

I think we hear a lot about early rollers, or at least it seems like that to me, but I fully expect DS to be a late roller/sitter/etc. I'm trying to remember that it's not a race and each LO will go according to his/her own schedule.

  • G isn't big on tummy time. I try, but I help her to her back when she starts yelling at us...lol. We're only at 3 mo, but I hear lots of stories about LOs flipping from tummy to back, but we're not there yet. Like pp said, every baby will do things in their own time.

DS was a late roller, but back when he was little, 1998, tummy time wasn't such a big deal. I don't remember even hearing that term until pg with G.

I try to tell myself this, too. DD rolled over for the first time (from belly to back) around 2 months, but she doesn't roll consistently or even often, even though she doesn't seem to particularly hate tummy time. She's a dainty gal.

We did try out something interesting yesterday, though, at the recommendation of another CDing mama... we took off her diaper and she rolled right over, twice. So we think maybe her big fluffy butt may be getting in her way!

  • DD hasn't rolled either way yet.  She can now tolerate tummy time for about 5 min but it used to be much shorter, plus as a reflux baby, she hasn't had much tummy time just because I didn't put her there due to increased spitting up.  (At 2.5 months she went through a spell of not gaining weight for 2 weeks so I was doing anything to keep food in to get weight.)

Within the past 2 weeks, she's shown that she can halfway roll from back to tummy by bringing both legs up 90 degrees then rolling to her side.  During tummy time, sometimes she'll push hard with one leg and get one side of her pelvis off the ground but that's as close as she's come to rolling over.

She has no balance for sitting yet but boy does she LOVE to stand up, and has times where she hardly needs any support from our hands to stand on our laps.

  • DD rolled from belly to back at 2m and back to belly at 4m. But she didn't do it consistently for a very long time. I think maybe 6m. It was like she wanted to see if she could do it and then once she did she was over it, LOL.

She always hated tummy time. It was better if we sat in the recliner with her on our chest but was never a fan. Probably why she never crawled and just went right to walking at 9m.

  • DD was never a huge crier. She would belly surf during tummy time. (balance on her belly and kick her legs). I think she first rolled over at 4-5 months. I missed it. The little turkey rolled over while I was in the kitchen!
