There was a bumpie that helped me out with a lot of questions not too long ago about the helmets, and I just wanted to say thank you! We didn't think we were going to have to do it but the neurologist said today we need to, and I am not worried about it because I feel like I am already pretty educated about it. I just wanted to thank you
Re: helmet mama, I can't remember your name...
it wasn't me but i wanted to let you know my LO has been in a helmet since September and i am so HAPPY we made the decision to do it. his head is pretty severe so we will be wearing it for a while. i love decorating it and changing it up every month! (check out www.blingyourband.com) Good luck with your LO's helmet... the time will go fast and your LO's noggin will look great at the end!
Not to assume, but it may have been me. I remember discussing our DS story and neurologist.I'm very glad you got the answers you were looking for and I hope things keep progressing for your family in a positive way!!!!
If it helps you to know, our DS gets his helmet off 12/19! the helmet worked great and we can't even tell at this point that there was ever an issue! These LOs grow so quick that corrections happen so fast. I am amazed at the results!
Again, I don't want to assume I was that person that helped you out so much, but if it was me, Thank you for letting all of us know that you're on a great path for help! If I can be of anymore help or provide more info, please PM me.
blingyourband is awesome! We used the service as well and I agree, the decorating is so fun! People love his helmet when we got out. They think it's a fashion thing. Lol. It makes it seem less scary and DS really doesn't mind his helmet, I think because all the attention he gets and the compliments! He's a big ham that way. LOL
buzzbee it was you, yes! I am glad that we are no longer scared about the helmet, the bad news is he has cerebral palsy. It wasn't really our decision to do the helmet (his pediatrician seemed to think he'd be fine without)...but the neurologist said he needs it. She is the expert. We have a long road ahead of us with all of his other issues, but the helmet is the least of my worries now!
If I remember our conversation before, you were wondering if you should wait until next Pedi check up to see what was happening, but your mama bear instinct was telling you something more was up...I am so glad the suggestion to follow your instinct and check out a neurologist like we did ended up being correct. I too didn't take what my Pedi was saying as a final word and ended up finding a new Pedi shortly after our specialist appointment. I figured if they couldn't pick up on what was truly happening, that more specialized care was needed, I lost trust in their ability to treat my son fully. Sounds like you do have a long road ahead, but now you are definitely on a path to get the help needed. and I know in some respect, that's got to feel a bit better to know for sure what you're facing. I know its gonna be tough, but you have amazing mama instincts and your LO is lucky to have a mama so on top of it! I wish you the bwst of luck and keep us all posted as to how its going. it may just help another mom out there with a similar situation. btw, no thanks needed. I like to share and help when I can. :
Big hugs to you!! and to everyone out there reading this, when in doubt, get a second opinion and follow your gut.
Yep I totally understand! We are already on our 2nd pedi (but they are at the same office). We are definitely finding a new PT though because I am not happy she discharged him after 4 weeks, and the neurologist was like WHAT. So we are going to take him to a more specialized PT place, it's a half hour drive but we will have to deal with it!
BTW, both of your LO's are adorable in their helmets
A is going to have glasses too. The good thing is the helmet will keep those glasses from being pulled off!
