NTTGPR: Tell me about white elephant gifts you've given/received

I have 3 parties in the next 2 weeks that have white elephant gift exchanges.

What do you usually bring? Something awesome people will fight over? Something awkward? Something sexual? Something laying around the house? Something hideous?

What's the best or craziest thing you ever got?

I've only been to 2 and I ended up with vibrating **** rings once and a gift card to Starbucks the other time... So my ideas are all over the place. hehe.

They are where you find something laying around your house and wrap it up to randomly exchange with other people.

Everyone who comes brings a random gift without a tag on it. Then usually by random draw you pick one and open it... then the next person grabs a present, they can keep theirs or switch with any open present. It's usually pretty hilarious. 

Per Wikipedia:

This game is sometimes called a Yankee Swap, Black Santa, Chinese Gift Exchange, Dirty Santa, Naughty Santa, Thieving Secret Santa, Parcel Pass, Christmas Swap Thing, Greedfest, or Pollyanna. In south central Pennsylvania it is also called "Kamikaze Gift Exchange".^[1][2]

Everyone puts the gifts in the middle of the room and then draws a number. You go in numerical order and pick presents and people can steal your gift if they come after you or pick from the pile. The ones I have been to have always involved inappropriate and wacky gifts and they are always hilarious.

Booze...everyone fights over booze lol...I went to one in college and there was this giant sumo wrestling doll it was way too funny and ppl were fighting over it because it was so random! A good gift card is nice too...

I always like bringing things that people will fight over, so normally I do a giftcard   One time I did get an electric oral B toothbrush (my cousins are dentists) and I still use it 7 years later (of course with a new bristle head)

ETA:  That same year, my DH ended up with a huge TV remote.  It's about the size of a 15 in computer screen.

I've made kitchen baskets from the dollar store, gardening basket from dollar store, bottle of wine with something wine related, movie from 5 dollar bin at Walmart, candy chocolate, ornaments.

We've received wine, mug gift card to Starbucks, MM Star Wars candy dispenser with MMs, scratch offs and the best we've gotten is the book What's Your Poo Telling You.

DH & I bought his old roommate charcoal underwear liners for killing the smell of farts. They were awesome & had these drawings in the instructions. Hilarious. We threw in a bar of soap to help him keep his ass clean.

i like getting a TON of cheap-o scratch off lottery tickets. like a lot a lot of them and then whoever ends up with them at the end of the exchange has to scratch them all off while we watch!

I only do white elephant through work so I always get good gifts and not crap. I'd hate to give someone something stupid and then get a nice $20 gift card to Starbucks.

This is a family tradition on MH's side of the family. Everyone brings a few wrapped gifts from either the dollar store or from home. The gifts all go in the center of the room and everyone sits in a circle around them.

Then there are 2 die that we send around in opposite directions. If you roll a 1 or a 6, you can either choose a gift from the center or steal someone's gift. When all of the gifts are gone, we pass the die around 1 more time to give everyone a chance to steal.

Last year MH's grandma got a little man sitting on a chair with a remote control. When you pull his finger, he farts. Granny loves that thing so much!

Today is 10dpo. If we get lucky on this break cycle, my idea is to make all of our white elephant gifts baby related. When everyone opens them, they will hopefully put 2 and 2 together.

ETA, after all of the gifts are open, we have a wrapping paper fight.

That's such a fun idea! FX for you!

P.S. We have wrapping paper fights, too. It's tradition.

MH's family does this every year.. last year his aunt bought a huge pack of toilet paper and his a dollar inbetween each roll. no one wanted the toilet paper but the person who got it got a good amount of money! lol
