DH and I have enjoyed a few comedians live over the years: Carlin, Attell, Maher, Gaffigan, and Tosh. Since you ladies and gents have quite the humor, I wonder who you look to for comedic relief? Out of all of the live shows we've seen, Carlin was definitely legendary, but Attell was a blast. We saw him twice. He signed my boob and did a shot with me.
Re: Favorite comedian and why?
I tried to get tickets for one of his shows, but we had to do family crap that weekend. I would rather have traveled the 300 miles and paid too much for a hotel room in Chicago than go to the family gathering. There will be no stopping me next time. Oh, and Lewis Black in on the list.
I nearly pissed my pants at Gaffigan live. There aren't many comedians who can get away with no cursing and an hour of bacon talk.
I forgot about Demitri Martin. His stand up is fantastic. I would love to see him live, too. His tv show is a little more meh than I had hoped. It did have his moments, like Bruce the funny dog skit.
Oh, and of course I don't see any midwestern shows of his any time soon.
Yeah, he's a little hit or miss for me too. But when he's funny, he's really funny and in a way that most other comedians aren't. I get tired of the guitar though. Clearly I have mixed emotions.
Holy fruck- I forgot about Tim Minchin. He's on my list. He's got timing perfection. Andplusalso, he's a redhead. I like my redheads.
Lewis Black.

Eddie Izzard
He is intelligent, random, and cross dresses. Nuff said.
Not alive: George Carlin and Mitch Hedberg
Mitch Hedburg and George Carlin were great. Eddie Murphy's standup was awesome.
edit: if someone says Dane Cook, you will will go on a post-it.
Louis CK, Michael Ian Black, Mitch Hedberg, Steven Wright, old-school Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Ricky Gervais
ETA: Dave Chappelle
Why: Because they're irreverent, goofy, relatable on some levels
I think ILY.
We saw Tosh a few years ago. He stand up was solid. His show isn't as funny anymore.
I don't believe you:)
“I’d marry again if I found a man who had $15 million and would sign over half of it to me before the marriage and guarantee he’d be dead in a year.” - Bette Davis
XOXO Izzard
Also Lewis Black and Gaffigan....hoooot pockets.
Nice. Although Cross's recent stuff stinks. Ever since GW was gone, really.
Loved him on Arrested Development. LOVED. His stand-up stuff, not so much.
(I just blue myself.)
Tosh is pretty funny, I also love John Pinette, Kathleen Madigan and Jim Gaffigan.
They are just.. I don't know funny. Tosh is great with his straight face or smirky delivery and I love Tosh.0, John Pinette - I love his range of voice tone and expression other than just plain being hilarious. Kathleen Madigan - only heard he ron Sirius but pretty good.. and Jim Gaffigan is such a great non-obsecene comedian. i can listen to the same standup for him and still laugh.
+1
Also Jim Gaffigan, David Cross, old Eddie Murphy stand up, Dave Attell, Dave Chappelle.
Dead: George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Greg Giraldo.
Also Chelsea Handler but apparently this is a FFFC around here.
I read all of Chelsea's books for the hell of it, and I literally laughed out loud during a couple of them. I don't know how her stand up would be, but I've heard she's usually a drunken, hot mess. I also like Sarah Silverman, which most folks around here loathe. I like that she really pushes the envelope, and her book was decent too.
Chelsea Handler is a FFFC? Why? I think she's funny--I love her show (is that a FFFC too?).
Has anyone seen Jo Koi's standup about having a son? Having two boys now, that bit is dead on.
DS2 August 2012
Chelsea Handler's show is offensively bad to me. Like, if I tried to make a worse program, I'm not sure I could. I've read some funny book excerpts, but her program is bad.
I like Sarah Silverman a lot. More her absurdist stuff rather than her doody jokes.
Mitch Hedberg, Jim Gaffigan, Ralphie May
I had a chance to see Mitch Hedberg just before he died, but I ended doing something else with friends. Regret that decision.
I resemble Sarah Silverman a little, except I don't have dark eyes. Tigg Notaro is another awesome standup chick. Seriously, check her out.
I thought I was going to be the only crazy that thought that Eddie Izzard was the dogs bollocks.
Eddie Izzard fan here too. I would also love to see Gervais live. I don't think he does much stand up anymore. He's into make television these days...
My favorites:
George Carlin
Bill Cosby
Denis Leary
Robin Williams
Chris Rock
Joan Rivers
I'm not very up to date, but I don't give a damn.
Really? That's disappointing.
Also Jim Gaffigan is overrated. My friend told me I would LOVE Mr. Universe and I was pretty underwhelmed.
