With all the weird spellings around these days I don't know what is the traditional way anymore. We have been thinking about Alessandra as a girls name... How would you spell her nickname?
I took care of a little boy named Ali (ah-lee, like Mohammed Ali or Prince Ali [Aladdin]) so I can never see the name without associating it with that. Aly/Ally makes me think Al-eye, like someone you'd form an alliance with... So I guess I'd personally go with Allie, but you see my weird train of thought, lol.
If her name is Alessandra...I wouldn't put two "L's" in her NN since there is only one "L" in her full name. But the name is NMS so I hate to offer any more advice...
Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

I think Ali is adorable, but as PPs have said, people may pronounce it as in "Mohammed Ali"!! Maybe Allie? I also love "Lexi" as a nickname for Alexandra/Alessandra.

Thanks. I was leaning more toward Allie, if that's the name we choose, but who knows!?! Both my other kids weren't named until 24hrs after birth and nothing is really popping out at me for a girls name.
This is a tough one! Our little girl is going to be named Alyssa and we plan to use the nn Allie. DH thinks we should spell it Aly or Ally because of the y in Alyssa but I don't care, I like the spelling Allie the best so that is what we will go with ;-) LOL. There really is no right or wrong, just go with what you prefer!

My younger sisters name is Alexandra and we call her Ali I've seen it spelled Ally for Allyson. Never seen Aly but Allie is usually what people mistake her speling for
Re: S/O name spelling... Nickname Ali? Aly? Allie? Ally?

I'm an Allison, went by Allie until high school so that's definitely the spelling I vote for!
[I do not like either of the options with a y - Ali is fine but very unisex]
I'd go with either Ali or Allie. My friend Alexandra is an Allie.
Both y variants look misspelled to me.
same.
same.
I like to spell it Allie for a girl. I called my older brother, Alexander, Ali.
I don't really like Aly or Ally.
