Babies on the Brain

Possibly a silly question

I've always had my annual gynecological appointment with my PCP. Now that my husband and I are thinking about TTC I'm not really sure when I should make an appointment with an OBGYN. Should I see one before we start trying or just stick with my primary until we start trying? As a bit of a back story I get very anxious about going to the doctor and I'm very comfortable with my primary. Thanks in advance.

  • You don't need to see an OBGYN until you actually get pregnant. Depending on your insurance, you might want to meet with a few ahead of time to see who might be a good fit for you. Remember, you can always change doctors if the first OBGYN doesn't work for you.

  • Do you think you'll be even MORE anxious if you wait until you are pregnant to pick an OBGYN?  For me, I know I need to feel comfortable BEFORE I get PG so I'm switching now.

This. I plan on finding one before getting pregnant so then if I end up not liking them, I may still have time to switch before I'm super far along.
  • I stuck with my PCP then switched to an obgyn when pregnant. I actually switched mid pregnancy too because our insurance changed. It worked out because I loved the second obgyne to much more. I am also an anxious patient as well.
