C-sections

AND another question of the day--visitors.

C-section is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. I was planning on the 2 and 4 year olds visiting me and the new baby the first evening in the hospital (and then coming again the next day for another visit). I know you don't know for sure how things will go, but do you think that is likely to be just fine? Or would I not want them to come at all until the following day?

Re: AND another question of the day--visitors.

  • I had my LO in the evening and told everyone the hospital didn't allow visitors before 9 AM. Had I had any sleep the three days before my c/s, I would have been fine much sooner.

The only thing is you might still be restricted to the bed at that point.

  • I had visitors the evening of my c-section. I was still confined to the bed, but other than that it was fine. You could always plan to have your other kids come up to visit, and then if you really aren't feeling it after surgery, see if they can come first thing the next morning instead. Good luck!

  • I would think you'll be fine.  I had my CS with DD at 5:15 in the afternoon, and was fine for visitors within a couple of hours.  For my RCS, I'm hoping to get one of the early slots (like, 7am) and plan to have DD come up and visit in the afternoon.

  • Also check your hospitals policy for age restrictions. Right now at the hospital where I work no kids under 5 yrs old are permitted on the dept no matter who they are during flu season.

  • I know with all of my c/'s I have them early in the morning's and after an hour of recovery I have all the family popping in and out.  My kids stay all day and then they visit for a couple hours the following days.

We usually have about 20+ people waiting in the waiting room to see the baby once I'm in recovery.  :)  BUT we like it this way!  Once the first day is over, we don't have many visitors and this time I'm spefically asked for no visitors expect grandparents and siblings for the rest of the time we are in the hospital just b/c we are going to be breastfeeding this time around.

  • I had my DD2 at roughly 8am and my DD1 came just a few hours later with my parents and hung out for several hours.  She didnt understand why I couldnt move or why she couldnt climb on me, but we cuddled for a long time and took turns holding the baby.  It was a great experience as a whole, I wouldnt change those hours for anything!
