Stinky diaper pail

We CD my 10 month old, and recently his diaper pail has started to smell like ammonia. We use a plastic trash can with planet wise liners. Any ideas to get rid of the smell? Thanks!

Re: Stinky diaper pail

  • When I had this issue, I stripped my diapers. I wash every other day and the smell really shouldn't be as bad as it was. Stripping the diapers helped a bunch. I also phased out all microfiber and have no stink issues anymore.

  • Have you tried washing the pail itself really good?  We have the exact same system, and the plastic pail definitely starts to smell nasty after awhile.  Much harder to wash it in the winter - in the summer we take it outside and hose it off :)

  • I would also suggest giving the pail a good scrub.  To be honest that is probably all you can do, if the smell is truly from the pail and not the dipes.  Also, try rinsing your pee dipes too before placing them in the pail, but keep washing every 2-3 days.
