Pregnant after 35

Its been 11 years!

Hi there!! I am fairly new to this site, I have been hanging out in the "1st Trimester" since I feel I am kind of new doing this again after so long. This is my 3rd pregnancy and it has been over 11 years since I was last pregnant. This is my second marriage and this is DH first baby. We are so thrilled to be expecting!!

Since I was last pregnant, so much has changed. Things from what foods I can't eat (I lived on lunch meat with my last pregnancy) to not finding maternity clothes at my favorite stores (found a small selection at Target and Khols).

As I get farther along into my 2nd and 3rd trimester, is there anything else that has changed? Do they still keep you in the hospital for 1-2 days after delivery?

Re: Its been 11 years!

  • Congrats and welcome.

Different hospitals/OB practices have different requirements for stays after delivery....and how much your insurance will allow.  I believe the standard is 24 hours after vaginal and 48 hours after C/S but it can vary.

  • Congratulations!

I know there are differing opinions but I honestly don't pay attention to food rules for the most part.  I probably don't eat much on the "bad" list anyway but I just don't stress about it.  My doctor doesn't even mention lunchmeat.

Oh and yeah I haven't had much luck with in store maternity but I have ordered stuff from the gap so far and been very happy with everything.

This is my first so I don't know but I think you are normally there 2 days max unless a c/s of course.

  • Thank You Ladies!! After some thought, I do have a coworker that had a baby a couple years ago and she has the same insurance as I do. When I announce my pregnancy I plan to contact her (I have moved to another state) and find out how her hospital stay was.

Congrats to the ladies that this is their first pregnancy!! I hope you all have a healthy and happy 9 months :)

Did you order online? I'm not sure how to order clothes online, so would you order a prepregnancy size? I really like a lot of maternity clothes I have seen online, but not sure if it will be too big or too small.

  • Congrats and welcome!  This is my third pregnancy as well.  My youngest is 12, so this is all new to me, too.  This LO is a bit of a surprise and will be my first with my wonderful DH, but we are thrilled!

There are so many changes since my last pregnancy!  The maternity clothes are so much cuter than what I had available over a decade ago.  I can't wait to explore all the new baby gadgets!

The only foods my doctor told me to avoid are sushi and other raw meats.  I don't have any problem with that!

     Good luck!

  • You are not alone.  I am pregnant finally after my first 14 years ago.  This is my DH first so we are thrilled since it took us a long time to finally get here.  There is so much that has changed.  I did not know what to expect at all and we did not have so much information available when I was pregnant.  Clothes are so much better.  I have found other maternity clothes at Motherhood Maternity (holiday sales & clearance rack).  I've heard Old Navy is good too but I haven't shopped there.  I also found some good used clothes at consignment/resales stores.  Prepregnancy size is what you are supposed to get but for me it's different.  I was a medium top but my boobs got huge and I have wide shoulders so depending on the material of the shirt what size I need.  Congrats on the pregnancy!

Yes I ordered online.  Gap has free return shipping too so thats nice.  I know that target and kohls you can just return in store also, maybe old navy too.  I ordered my prepregnancy size in everything and it has been fine. I also ended up ordering a couple pairs of pants on ebay.

  • It's been 11 years for me too.

I think hospital stays are the same but in my info packet from the dr office it said that I need to call the ins company to stay in the hospital more than 1 day for vag & 2 days for c/s.

  • I don't know if this is new or not (my first pregnancy) but I was told by my doctor to go really easy on green tea.  Can't remember exactly why, but it can harm the baby if you drink too much of it.
  • Your lucky : It's been 18 years for me!
There sure seems to be a lot of pregnancy syndrome I don't remember!
  • Congrats to all and good luck on a happy and healthy pregnancy!! When it comes to being pregnant, I don't remember being so tired and food not being a friend of mine. I also don't remember my boobs being this sore (and big) in the beginning.

Today I go for a 10 week u/s and I have a whole list of more questions for my Dr.

  • Congratulations on all later in life pregnancies!!! My 2nd after 11 yrs and first for DH. Product quality has gotten better, variety has increased as well as safety aspects. The whole birthing process has even been made easier (my sister is an RN on the L&D ward with the hospital I'll be at). Good luck for everyone!!

  • It's been 15 years for me.

Some things I didn't know the first time. Car seats have expiration dates!!! Who would have thunk it? I bought everything second hand for my first DS and now I get nervous buying anything second hand for this LO.

     No more drop sided cribs!

Buy Buy Baby is horribly overpriced but they have tons of great stuff.

I bought 90% of my maternity stuff at Good Will and at MOPs sales. Don't pay full price unless you have to.

I still eat lunch meat but stay away from raw eggs, sushi and other things that are un/undercooked.

STAY OFF DR. GOOGLE!!!!! There is enough info on here to freak you out, don't borrow trouble.

     Congrats!!!
