7 Weeks Pregnant

Any runners out there?

Hi all - I'm about 7w3d (first dr. appointment later this week). Other than fatigue, heartburn, and bloating am feeling pretty good. I've always been a runner and usually run 3-4 days/week anywhere from 3-6 miles. Everything I've read says if you were a runner before getting pregnant, it's okay to keep going (as long as you feel okay). Any other mommies-to-be also running?

  • I was running before also and have a 5k in a week. I am 7 weeks and yesterday I could barely make it due to I wanted to vomit. I think your ok to run but your not supposed to exercise to the point where you cant talk while your doing it. So I am not sure how I am going to make it through the 5k.

  • I completed my first marathon in October and several weeks later, we were pregnant! I have reduced my mileage to 3-6 miles but have unfortunately started running very slow to keep my heart rate down. They say your BPM should not exceed 150 when pregnant which would normally not be a problem, however it seems my little bean has caused my heart rate to go up quite a bit. My previous pace was around 9 min/miles and that was keeping at 150 BPM, now I am at 11 min/miles to maintain the same heart rate. It is worth it to stay healthy but very frustrating because I still feel like going fast! The other challenge I am having is nausae...sure makes it hard to work out. I think you are fine to continue your workouts just watch your heart rate. If you body says rest, then you should probably listen. Good luck =)

  • My doctor told me with my first one as long as I had been running before it was ok to continue running.  Lately I have not been running as much and I also push my 2 1/2 year old son when I run.  Now I can't run to much cause my heart beat sky rockets and I get so tired.  I've been walking more now.  I'm also 7 1/2 wks.
  • I'm in a pretty similar situation to you. I'm just under 7 wks right now, and I have had about the same symptoms - fatigue, heartburn, and bloating. I ran a marathon at 5 weeks, before I knew I was pregnant! My family doctor said it was fine and shouldn't cause any complications (phew! I was worried when I first found out). She said I could keep running as long as it was comfortable. Yay! I switched from running in the afternoons to the mornings, since lately I've been so tired in the afternoons I can barely drag myself out the door :) Also, my heartburn is a lot worse in the afternoon, so it was slowing me down. I run 4 days per week and either swim or bike two days. I usually run 4-6 miles. I'm glad to find other runners!
  • I ran a lot before I got pregnant, but I have slacked off a little to only 1-2 days a week. I ran competitively in high school and college and my joints have started paying for it now. I'm trying to do some lower impact cardio like elliptical and bicycling during the pregnancy though. I have a coworker who taught Body Combat up until 38 weeks, though, so I don't know why I'm so paranoid :)

  • I'm on my fourth pregnancy, I run 69 miles 5x wk. I ran until about 6 months, then the weight of the baby with every step felt like a UTI, I had to pee every 2 minutes while running so I changed it to the treadmil walking on a incline at a quick pace to get my cardio in
  • Hi! I am about 6 weeks and I have found that running is helping to make both my body and my mind rest better. I've been really nervous and anxious about this pregnancy my husband and I are trying to relocate to be closer to family and friends and I have found that continuing to run has really helped clear my head. Although, nausea and lots of saliva has started to hit me this week, I feel pretty good. I too have noticed having to slow the pace and distance I feel like I'm out of shape and get short of breath and a really high heart rate, definitely didn't have those issues a month ago! I was training for an April marathon and was up to about 14 mile long runs but I am reconsidering just running a half... Nice to see other preggo girls who love to run as well!!
  • Im a runner and was running 6-10 miles 4-5 times a week before I found out I was pregnant. I've heard if you were a running before you got pregnant you can continue to run while pregnant.  Im 7weeks 3 days and am so exhausted that I can barely make 4-5 miles 3 times a week. Im hoping my energy will pick up as time goes on....

  • I'm so nauseated and fatigued that I've had to stop running. This is so upsetting to me. I'm also hoping in 4 weeks and 4 days second trimester that ill feel better!!! Not that I'm counting.....
  • Yes! I am a runner as well. I'm 7 weeks 1 day today and had my first visit with my midwife this morning. She told me I,could continue to run but to cut back on the intensity and not allow myself to get overheated or exhausted, I notice already that I'm out of breath much easier. She also said to eat to replace the calories lost afterwards. Congrats! Good luck and happy running!
  • Hi! I am 6 weeks and 5 days. I was in the process of training for a half marathon before finding out I was pregnant. I will still be run/walking it in 2 weeks. I also have a 5k this weekend. Keep at it Mama!
  • I haven't been running quite as much just because it's been snowy here and I hate the dreadmill! When I have run on the treadmill I found that I felt great. I would like to continue to run as long as I feel good doing it!

  • Saw the doctor today - I'm exactly the same as you 7w3d.  She said you should be able to have a conversation and the nurse said HR shouldnt go above 140.  You should be fine!  Congrats.
  • Hello there!

I'm seven weeks today and haven't had any energy to run in the last 3 weeks. I usually run about 2-3 times a week. I know that I should push myself to go out anyway.... Will try to go tomorrow. I have been feeling remarkably good. Mainly just fatigue and slight nausea in the mornings. Good luck with your running!

  • Im 7 week and 2 days. I've been told by my fertility specialist I needed to stop starting from my IVF treatment. This is despite being a regular runner before. Suffering from withdrawal symptoms and growing fat really quickly but I can't afford to take the chance ! =(

  • I'm 7 weeks also, and continuing to run. I have had to cut my runs some, just simply from extreme fatigue, but my doctor said running is safe since I was a runner before. I ran 7 miles yesterday, slowly and with walk breaks, and feel fine.

I actually completed a full marathon last month, 4 days before finding out I was pregnant! So regular, everyday runs are fine for most who have been running previously.

  • Oh my gosh, I miss running so much!! Morning sickness has kept me virtually immobile. I've tried every remedy, and my doc prescribed Zofran but it doesn't really help. Fatigue hasn't been much of an issue, but how are y'all pushing through the morning sickness?? Any tips??
  • I have noticed that my heart rate (including my resting heart rate) is higher as well.  I've dialled back to walk/run intervals and have found that feels comfortable but I still get the feel good endorphins :)

My only issue is that my breasts are sooooo tender! I'm only 7 weeks but think I might need to get some heavy duty maternity bras already!

I also love to run but I have backed waaayyy off. When I run I am constantly thinking 'is this too hot?' Or 'am I too out of breath?' I figure if I am going to worry about it I might as well just walk, but when I go for a walk I feel like I should be doing more and always end up running. I just do intervals and what I feel comfortable doing. Plus my breasts are soooo tender its pretty painful when I first start to run so sometimes that stops me. Just listen to your body and do what's comfortable for you.
  • I was running before and 2 days after I found out I was pregnant I did a 4 mile obstacle run. But now I can't muster up the energy to get out there again! I am 7 weeks as well. i am trying to be motivated, but because of the Vegas heat I can't run in the mornings anymore do finding the motivation to run and change my schedule is rough! I need some motivators!!!
  • I'm 8 weeks pregnant and have stopped running in the last few weeks, I'm so nauseated and tired. I can hardly run a mile without puking somewhere: everyone on the bike path probably hates me!
  • I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who stopped running! I've been so exhausted I haven't done much as far as workouts :( I was doing so well before I got pregnant...
  • I am continuing, but with a heart rate monitor.  Mine's a timex, and was only $35ish on amazon.  Good luck!
