Baby Names

CP - How do you feel about 2-in-1 names?

For example, Ashleigh and Lynn combined to make Ashlynn, or Jennifer and Jessica to be Jennica. Just wondering what the overall opinion is.

Also, what are some that you have heard (or used!)?

  • 99.9% of the time I don't like them, but I have an aunt named after her grandparents (Emma and Lee) and she is an awesome person, so I love her name :)  It's Emmalee.

    Anna Catherine 7/23/2012, 35 weeks 5 days, 5 lbs 5 oz (PProm)

    Baby Sam 10/4/2013, 36 weeks 2 days, 5 lbs 14 oz

  • Ahh the smoosh name. I can't think of a single one that I've ever liked.

  • I think most of the time Ashlyn is an American spelling for Aislin or Aisling, yes?

Typically I don't like it, but there are a few like Marianne, Annmarie, Annabelle that I like.  I guess they are variants of names that used to be very common and popular so I can understand the reason they needed to be invented.  Even our #1 names now don't have as many babies being born with that name as there were 100 years ago when there were less name choices.  Marianne instead of Mary Ann- one of my faves, Jennica instead of Jennifer Jessica- makes me cringe.

I'm sure she's awesome but how is Emmalee pronounced any different than Emily?  And why not Emma (fn) Lee (mn)?

  • I think they're awful 99% of the time.

The only time I'm ok with them is when they coincidentally come together into another totally real name.

  • I don't care for most of them, but some are ok. One of my GP boy names is Gianluca. Gian and Luca are fine on their own, but so cute together.

I've never seen one that I didn't think was terrible.

This. I'm not a fan of smoosh names.
