99.9% of the time I don't like them, but I have an aunt named after her grandparents (Emma and Lee) and she is an awesome person, so I love her name It's Emmalee.

I think most of the time Ashlyn is an American spelling for Aislin or Aisling, yes?
Typically I don't like it, but there are a few like Marianne, Annmarie, Annabelle that I like. I guess they are variants of names that used to be very common and popular so I can understand the reason they needed to be invented. Even our #1 names now don't have as many babies being born with that name as there were 100 years ago when there were less name choices. Marianne instead of Mary Ann- one of my faves, Jennica instead of Jennifer Jessica- makes me cringe.

I'm sure she's awesome but how is Emmalee pronounced any different than Emily? And why not Emma (fn) Lee (mn)?
I don't care for most of them, but some are ok. One of my GP boy names is Gianluca. Gian and Luca are fine on their own, but so cute together.

I think they're awful 99% of the time.
The only time I'm ok with them is when they coincidentally come together into another totally real name.
