Hi CD Mammas!
I am a new mom who is working part-time from home. I want to transition my 13 week boy from Seventh Generation Disposables and gDiapers to CDs and I need your help. I have watched a ton of YouTube videos, read a bunch of reviews and post and it has just let me confuse and has delay me starting. Need to know favorite brands what liners/stuffers I need. How many and if I need a sprayer. Baby is exclusively BFed.
Thanks!
Re: Need Recommendations from CD Mammas!
It all depends on what you're looking to use.
My preferences are pockets or all-in-ones. My favorites are my Bumgenius diapers. But I'm trying out Fuzzibunz and the first few I've liked. Fuzzibunz are trimmer and fit better on a skinny baby. They also take a little more time to get the elastic adjusted just right.
If you go for pockets or all-in-ones you'll need 20-24 if you wash every other day. You'll also need 2 large wet bags or pail liners to store the dirty diapers in.
At this point you don't need a sprayer, that really isn't necessary until you start solids.
Liners aren't necessary. They can be used later on when you start solids.
To wash every other day with a 13 week old, you probably need 24 diapers.
If you buy pocket diapers new, they come with inserts/stuffers so you just use those. AIOs are all-in-one like the name implies, so you don't need anything extra with those. Liners aren't necessary unless you have to use non-CD-friendly diaper cream, so don't worry about those yet. If you want to try a all-in-two or prefold/cover or fitteds/cover system you need about 3-4 inserts/prefolds/fitteds for each cover.
You don't need a sprayer at this point. EBF poo is water soluble, so you just toss the diaper in the wetbag or diaper pail and then into the washer on laundry day. Do a pre-wash/rinse (no detergent) to rinse the poo away and then wash your diapers with detergent.
Get a couple of diapers from each type you'd like to try and just go for it. I would not get a whole stash of one kind of diaper before trying it.
Good luck and post questions if you are curious about specific brands/types of diapers.
Right now I have a mix of BG 4.0's and Kawaii pockets. I also have a few prefolds with covers. My favorites are my pockets because I can use them for day or night. I like my prefolds though if I know he will only need a diaper for a short period of time. I would prefer to not waste a pocket if that makes sense. Both BG and Kawaii come with inserts but I bought hemp inserts as well to use for night time with a MF insert.
I just got a sprayer and it's much better than dunking in the toilet! You won't need a sprayer though until your LO starts solid food.
