Boringish updates (tests and junk) and decorations update

Hey sweet ladies -

I got some boring tests run recently. My AMH is normal at 2.6. My Counsyl Genetic test was normal, as in I am not a carrier of 18 of the most common genetic issues. My pap was normal. My Vitamin D level was low, so I'm on supplements (no biggie). My blood glucose was normal. But... but...but...

I have high cholesterol!!! I was totally thrown for a loop by that. Totally not expecting it. I have not been eating beef, pork or other "red" meats since I was 15 and I am quite healthy otherwise and not overweight. High cholesterol runs in my family, so there is definitely a genetic component. I've also read that IF drugs can increase your cholesterol (does anyone have any info on this??). Also I had been instructed to eat a "full fat" diet (whole milk, full fat yogurt) and eat lots of eggs to help increase ferility... so that may be a huge contributing factor. I'm going back to have it tested in 3 months as we'll see what happens. Since I got the news I've been watching and recording what I'm eating very carefully.

I'm quite frustrated with the diet component (and by diet, I don't mean "lose weight" kind of diet, I mean like your daily diet, just what you put into your body) because PCOS and DOR have different recommendations which don't gel with a low cholesterol diet very well. I'm debating seeing if I can find a nutritionist to help me out.

DH had a DNA frag test but we don't have the results of that yet. I will call this afternoon and see what I can find out.

We've been gathering medical records and filling out histories online for our phone consult with CCRM on 12/12. I'm nervous but interested in what they have to say.

----------

The decorations - I emailed the gal who'd put them up and cleared any weird air between us. Luckily she is very nice and positive, so she didn't think my question about taking them down was weird.

She went to our boss, because he has say in what goes on. We were having clients in house last week, so I thought they'd be coming down - but no, he decided to keep them.

I had a therapy appointment that day and I cried about it and I talked to Mister D about it and cried too. I was going to talk to my boss about it (he's the only person at work who knows about all our struggles) but I decided not to. Once the whole thing got to that point I gave up.

I decided that it wasn't worth it. I feel like from an outside perspective it is such a petty thing. But I know, for me and others dealing with IF/losses it isn't.

I didn't want to have a bad attitude about it, so I just let it go. And it's been ok since. I feel like I put energy into dealing with it and I did, in a way, internally.

That's all.

Re: Boringish updates (tests and junk) and decorations update

  • I'm glad the majority of the results were good, but sorry to hear about the cholesterol! I would definitely try to find a nutritionist too. Trying to make all those plans work together sounds confusing! FX for good results on Mr. D's frag test!!

As for the decorations, I'm sorry they decided to leave them up. It's hard having constant reminder, especially when no one else seems to notice. I hope they take them down soon!

  • I am glad to hear about some of your test results, but the cholesterol news does stink. I hope that watching and recording helps somehow. And I'll keep my fingers crossed for your CCRM appointment. That totally sucks about the decorations. I completely understand what you're saying about "from the outside it is such a petty thing, but for those with IF it's not." I got invited randomly to a babyshower for someone I didn't know having their FOURTH child. They got my email address through official church records and I was an invitee along with 112 other people! I blew a gasket and lost my schnit on them big time. And I'm sure to them it seemed incredibly petty, but to me, and to others within the 112 invitees (I'm sure some of them had IF or losses) it was not petty either! People who haven't had to deal with it don't understand how painful these "petty" things are. Big hugs to you, that just sucks big time.

  • Hi Breezy - Sorry to hear about the whole decorations thing but glad about most of your results being normal. I wanted to chime in on the cholesterol thing because I just went through it with my doc. I see an endocrinologist (in addition to the RE) and what do you know - my cholesterol was through the roof. I was shocked like you were. He went over what everything has been these past few years and then asked - 4 IVF's in a year and a half? hmm then said that is just another reason I hate those drugs! I had to ask him to clarify and he said there is mounting evidence that the medications cause increases in cholesterol. He then put me on 6 yes 6 fish oils a day - they made me want to vomit .....

  • The diet issues with IVF are just impossible, I agree. Conflicting advice, avoid carbs, avoid protein, avoid fish, avoid booze, avoid caffeine, avoid sugar, avoid artificial sweeteners, avoid food coloring, avoid avoid avoid. After a while, I'm left wondering what, exactly, I can eat. Not much, I think, is the answer. I like the advice to see a nutritionist. That could help.

As far as those d@mned decorations go, I offer to bust in there and take them down, "Election"-style.

Scoopy - I know!!! I feel like IF has taken the enjoyment out of SO many things and then to have food taken, such a basic staple thing, makes me feel all wonky and blah. So lame.

I like the "election" style reference. I'm with you. I'll bring my segway from our earlier conquest.

  • I have been MIA lately, but I just wanted to wish you luck with your CCRM consult and sorry about the diet conflicts.  I hope you can find one that works for you.

I just completed my ER at CCRM and also just got my CCS results back and I have to say, even if this doesn't work, it was worth every penny.  I have never once had an embryo that was high enough quality to freeze and I had 9 at CCRM that were biopsied and frozen.  Then I just found out that 5 of those are chromosomally normal.  All I have to say is that tehy have been able to do more already than any of my local clinics have been able to.  I am impressed with the the professionalism and attention to detail at CCRM.

Good Luck and feel free to ask any questions about CCRM.  What Dr. are you consulting with??

After 1 IUI, 3 IVF's with CGH/CCS testing, 10 early miscarriages, and lots of tears and frustration, we are moving on to Domestic Infant Adoption!  We are so excited to see what the future holds.
