My heart is broken, advice please!

SO's SA results came in today. His count was great but his motility was only 11%. This is not good. Please tell me your thoughts or if you have been in a similiar situation and what happened. Do we even have a chance? RE said he should see a urologist. UGH!

Re: My heart is broken, advice please!

  • I don't have any experience with MFI, and I'm sure there are others more qualified to speak to the specifics of this, but I know that you definitely have a chance.  Besides possibly using meds to increase motility (if that's an option), I believe you should be able to use ICSI to fertilize your eggs.  They take the individual sperm and inject it into the egg.

There's definitely some research and work ahead of you, but I think you are still in it.  At the very least, you know what you are dealing with now, which is better than spinning your wheels trying something that definitely won't work.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this roadblock, but wishing you the best of luck!

  • I'm sorry!  We are really just in the preliminary stages of testing, but we have received similar news-- bad morph and motility.  Since we are not done testing, I can't say how or if those can be improved.  But I agree-- from my limited research, there are some possibilities, including IVF with ICSI.

I totally know what a blow the news can be.

  • We had always been considered unexplained IF while TTC#1. When we went back to the RE a few months ago to try for #2 my husband's SA came back with low motility, low morph but normal count. Motility was only 28 percent and morph only 1 percent. I was shocked to say the least since all his previous SA's had been normal.

Has your husband been sick in the past 3 months? I know sperm regenerates every 90 days and if your DH was ill that could possibly effect the motility. Varicocele can effect it as well. I know the urologist will check for that.

I put my husband on a bunch of vitamins and I don't know if it is coincidence or not but I just had my first IUI on Sunday and DH's motility came back at 50 percent and 86 percent post wash. He had only been on them for 6 weeks though.

DD is by my EX-H. His SA was fine but SO's isn't :( His morph and count were fine just motility. He hasn't been sick. What is Varicocele? Also, what vitamins did you use? Thank you so much!!!

     Thanks everyone!

I put DH on Vitamin C, E, B12, Zinc, Selenium, CoQ10, and Ginsing.

Varicocele is basically like a varicose vein in the scrotum and it can prevent the blood from flowing properly. When they do surgery they cut the vein that is blocking the blood flow and when that is done it usually improves sperm count and motility. I used to work for a Uro before having ds and it is a fairly common procedure.

Thank you so much! He is on Vitamin C, Zinc and B12 but we will be adding the others!

Right now he isn't open to a donor but after trying for a while, he may be!

    Thank you so much ladies!

  • Just to add-- my accupuncturist has recommended L-carnatine and L-arginine in addition to the CoQ10 and Fish Oil supplements DH takes.

Awesome! Thank you!!!! Our whole foods store suggested L-arginine and they carry it. They probably have L-carnatine too!
