Has anyone had antibiotics for lo yet?

Emma went for her 6 month late well baby on Thursday and we found out that she had a double ear infection with her left ruptured. She was put on antibiotics for the first time.
It is really strange because we had NO signs of illness. She had had her first cold about one week before Halloween that went away in about 2 days, but nothing since. She was still napping great and sleeping through the night. Very shocking to find out that our poor girl had a horrible ear infection for almost a month. Even as a 4 th time mom I feel awful that I didn't "know" something was wrong. I guess it is good to have an easy going child, but the irrational guilt is still there
Anyways she is on amoxicillin for the first time

  • My lo had an ear infection at his 6 month appointment. I didn't have a clue. He was so happy. My older son is the same way.  He doesn't complain until something is really bothering him.

  • Poor babies!  I'm glad your dr's caught it though!

My mother had an ear infection that went undiagnosed as an infant and has hearing loss because of it... we were always rushed to the dr if we so much as put our hand to our ears!  Scary that they didn't show signs of it... DD hasn't really been to the dr. since a few weeks after she was born for a blocked tear duct...(nurse does weight/height/shots etc here) she went on antibiotics then for a short while.

  • Mobile user here so I can make out your whole title but our LO had an eye infection at 2 weeks that landed us in NICU with intervenors antibiotic and 10 more days of amoxicillin at home. Other then 1 explosive liquid diaper and the wrestling match to get the red medicine in her mouth not on the onsie we survived the 10 days at home. The time in the NICU was a whole nother story

  • We too had an unnoticed ear infection at our 6 month check. She did the 10 amoxicillan routine and after an initial rough start, she did great with it.  Looking back there were some minor signs, but she was perfectly happy and content 90% of the time.

  • At 4 mos DD had a runny nose and cough and after about a week and being told not to come in b/c it was probably just a little cold, I took her in and she had an ear infection.  They put her on amoxicillan for 10 days and after a day she got Thrush (yeast infection of the mouth) from the meds so she was on Thrush meds as well and we had to disinfect everything that touched her mouth for at least 12 days.  Went back 2 weeks later--no symptoms and she had a double ear infection and a little bit of Thrush left.  They put her on  Azithromicin for 5 days and it cleared right up with no Thrush.  I just took her last week b/c she had been fussy with only a runny nose.  Ear infection!  So she just completed her 5th day of Azithromicin and didnt get Thrush.  I am so thankful that she doesn't really show symptoms so it must not be too uncomfortable for her, but I wish there was more of a sign.
