Car seat question...

How reclined (if at all) is your convertible car seat and what kind is it?  I have the Britax Marathon 70-G3 and it's definitely NOT fully reclined.  My sister was trying to tell me that it DOES need to be fully reclined in the rear-facing position - but I didn't see that anywhere.  So - how reclined is your rear-facing convertible carseat?  TIA!

Re: Car seat question...

  • I'm curious about this too (as we are getting her seat tomorrow). Our friend had her son fully reclined and I wasn't sure if that was by choice or if she read it somewhere or what.

  • We have a britax blvd 70. It is fully reclined. DH installed it and I didn't believe him that he reclined it all the way because it doesn't seem like it-- but it is!

  • Doesn't the seat have a level in it?  The few convertible seats that we have had or the girls have these - one for rear facing and one forward.  I ont have a britax though.

  • What do you mean by 'fully reclined'? We just installed our Britax Marathon and have it reclined as far as it can go. It's at the same angle as her infant car seat was. But the Britax Marathon has 3 reclined settings. Are you referring to those?

  • We have the same seat and it is reclined all the way. I am fairly certain that the manual says that it has to be if it is rear facing. I can check tomorrow if you need me to. :

  • Oh! Now I know what you mean. Our Britax Marathon manual said 45 degrees for infants who can't control their heads and up to 30 degrees for those that can. It was in the front of the manual.

ETA: Here is the manual and it is one page 22.

  • Our seat has a level in it and says "rear facing" on the most reclined part. Our seats are kind of odd and they kind of dip down in the back so it doesn't allow the car seat to recline fully. We put a foam block under the seat to make it recline. And that's advice from the police department and our pedi.

  • All the way reclined. We have an Evenflo Momentum 65 and it says you can ONLY have it in recline position 3 (most reclined) in the rear facing position. It also says to use recline position 2 for forward facing up to something like 40 pounds, and then position 1 for 40-65 lbs, so it's very specific.

Ours are the same.  There is a level and we have to make sure it's adjusted properly.

ETA - The seats we have don't have different reclining options.  That sounds pretty cool!

  • Let me confuse you, mmmk?

Our Boulevard 70-G3 is fully reclined in my back seat. However, the angle she's sitting at (because of my rear bucket-type seats) is more like the middle recline position if you were sitting the car seat on flat ground.

    Does that make any sense?

That's how our car is too. Our pedi recommended putting a foam pool noodle under the seat to correct it. Well we couldn't find a pool noodle. We found a foam block instead that my twin niece/nephew have that are like giant foam building blocks. We took it to the police department to get it installed and they recommended that we use the foam block.

  • Different manufacturers allow different reclines.
