Trying to Get Pregnant

21 day cycle..

I have a very regular 21 day cycle. I'm by no means saying I know it all, but I would like to hear from other ladies on here who also have 21 day cycles..

when do you usually ovulate?

ETA: I'm wondering because on FF and other trackers I have used (without adding temps or CM yet) they all say my FW is during AF and the day after. Is that possible?

I'm confused.. FF will say you FW is during your period? Your FW can't be predicted without temps.

  • I had a 21 day cycle one of my cycles.  I would ovulate on day 15 and would get af 6 days later.  My luteral phase wouldn't be long enough.
  • If its your first cycle using FF I think the software automatically predicts your FW will be the average LP length before your period is "due". Depending on how long your period lasts that could well coincide with your FW. As you put in info (temps, OPKs, CM) it will get a better feel for when your FW is.
If you plan to use OPKs you can check either peeonastick.com or the "OPK Optimizer" (under Analysis > Timing if you have the VIP version of FF) to determine when to start using them (although it would probably say right after your period). Also, have you recently been on hormonal BC or anything?

  • I don't have a 21 day cycle, but I have read for those that do have shorter cycles can ovulate at the end of AF or very soon after.  If you have a full two week LP, that would put you at Oing at CD 7.  I would temp (if you haven't started already, wasn't sure) and use OPKs to find out for sure when you are ovulating.  HTH!

  • FF predicts (forecasts) without temps.

    I googled and got this

Can I ovulate right after my period?

The answer to this is determined by how many days are in your cycle. For example, if you have a 21 day cycle ( from the beginning of one period to the beginning of another) and you bleed for 7 days, then yes, you could ovulate right after your period. This is because we know ovulation can occur 12-16 days before your next period begins, and this would put you ovulating at days 6-10 of your cycle.

    from this site:

    https://www.americanpregnancy.org/gettingpregnant/ovulationfaq.htm

I have a 21 day cycle with 7 days of AF.

  • Technically it's possible. I see that you've mentioned FF - are you actively temping? Do you have any charts we can see?

That being said, I have a shorter than "normal" cycle - between 24-25 days. I ovulate around CD 10-12, which is considered "early". My luteal phase has been between 13 and 15 days.

Let's say that you have a luteal phase of 14 days, hypothetically. In that case, you could have your FW during AF because you would, in theory, ovulate on CD 7. Since your FW extends from the day of ovulation backwards about 3-4 days, then you could be on your period during your FW. Does that make sense?

I would definitely start temping on FF if you aren't already. Good luck!

  • Dear, when you have a million questions a day you can just put them all in one thread.

  • I bought a bbt thermometer today and plan on starting my charting tomorrow and through the rest of the month for practice before doing so to TTC in January.

I have not been on BC/ hormones ever.

Thanks, I don't usually so I don't see it as a big deal. Bigger chance of getting more answers this way.

  • Also, it seems like common sense, but are you talking about spotting or a full on period every 21 days? I have light periods and until I really started charting I considered my spotting to be part of my period and thought my shorter than average cycles were really short. Good luck, hope things become a bit more clear once you start charting.

Don't mock my age! This old lady knows a thing or two and posting about every little thing (not just today) tends to get annoying.

  • My last cycle was my first charting, and it was 21 days. I had four days of AF, then got my first +OPK and EWCM on CD8. FF first had my CH on CD8, then later moved it to CD10, and actually kept moving it back and forth between the two, ending up settling on 10, so ultimately my LP was 11 days.

I'm on CD8 today and didn't get +OPK today, but have been testing for two days now and they're getting darker, and today I have watery CM, I expect I'll get +OPK tomorrow or the next day.

  • If your cycle is that short and your AF is long, your FW will likely be during AF. But that's if FW is a WEEK. By the time you're ovulating your period will be over.

  • This is my first cycle trying for #2 but when I was trying for #1 I would have cycles anywhere from 21 to 35 days long.  I always got AF 12 days after I got my positive OPK.  So during the 21 day cycle I O'd around the 9th day.
  • First of all, the cycle trackers automatically assume you have a 14 day LP (the time between O and CD1).  While your LP is the most consistent part of your cycle, it may not be 14 days.  It could be that you have a 10-11 day LP, meaning you O around CD10-11.  The best way to truly determine your FW is going to be charting your BBT.
