Babies: 6 - 9 Months

wheezing when excited

Dd is 8 mos and just started to do this today. I noticed when she laughs or gets excited she inhales and does this wheezing noise. The kind I guess you would make if you were super out of breath. But she isn't at all. She is totally normal and fine, not sick or showing any signs either. I'm thinking maybe she just learned how to make that sound and likes it ??
I sure don't!

Re: wheezing when excited

  • My DD isn't doing the exact same thing, but the last few days she's found it hilarious to "fake cough".  At first I thought she was coming down with a cold, or we needed to crank up her humidifier.  Then I realized she was smiling and laughing the whole time she was doing it and then I could tell she was purposely making herself cough!  I've realized babies are just ridiculous!  When they find out how to make a new noise they get stuck on it til they learn a new one.  I just really wish she wouldn't have started this cough thing right before my MIL came for the weekend!  I explained to her that she was just fake coughing and she looked at me like I was crazy.  Luckily after a while it was super obvious DD wasn't really coughing and MIL laughed and said "wow she really is just faking it!".

  • My DD makes a squeeling type of sound by sucking air in when she's excited.  She's been doing it for almost two months now.  I think it's funny!

  • DS did this a couple months ago and scared the crap out of me! I brought him to the pedi and of course he didn't do it there and she said his lungs sounded great. Still have no idea what it was, but scared me!

  • DD is 8 months old and wheezes when she gets super excited. It worries me, but I check her airwaves and breathing sounds and she is all clear, I think that's just the way she is.

  • My LO has the same excited wheeze. Pedi says all babies have it until they grow out of it about 2 months old. Thinks my LO just never grew out of it. As long as it is in the throat and not the longs, it should be fine.

Also, the fake coughing thing has started here too. He thinks it is hysterical!
