1) does anyone know if Tufts HMO covers elective c-sections?

 

2) are there doctors in the Portsmouth area willing to perform elective c-sections?

Most Dr's will not do them electively anymore. ACOG (who is their governing body) does not recommend or support them. Also consider that their medical malpractice insurance also stops them from performing them electively (its major surgery and has alot more risks when a mom is low risk and perfectly capable to medically have a vaginal birth). I suggest you call your insurance provider directly because most are trying to get out of paying anymore than they have to and C sections are substantially more expensive. Also I would directly just ASK your OB and if they can recommend someone who they know who will perform the surgery electively. Good luck in finding and having the birth experience you are hoping for!

Can I ask, why do you want an elective csection? The baby will come when it's is ready to.. Why force it out before it's time?

Dr Mark Kobelin in Lexington does elective c sections, he delivers at the BI : not Portsmouth, but still an option. Good luck!
