Parenting after a Loss

An update

Well, we're in the hospital.  Lucy's bili levels kept increasing, and she was really limp and lethargic on Friday night.  We took her to the ER, and her levels were 17.3.  She perked up some and they sent us home, telling us to keep her peds appointment for Sat. morning.  By Sat. morning, she was really tired/limp again.  The doctor didn't seem overly concerned about her levels, but I expressed my concerns, especially that she wasn't eating well.  We were offered the option of checking back in for bili lights/blanket treatment, so I decided that would be best for her.  She's been on the lights now for almost 24 hours.  Last night, her levels were down to 15.1.  She's also gained about 4 oz, and seems a lot better already.  It's really hard not being able to hold her except for feedings, but I think this is what's best for her at this point.  I want my little girl healthy!

Re: An update

  • Ugh, I'm sorry you're dealing with high bili levels. It's great that her levels are down and she's gaining, though. I know it's hard not to snuggle her but you're doing the right thing to get her healthy. At this rate she'll be healthy and back at home really soon. Hang in there mama!

  • I'm sorry you had to take her in but you are doing what you need to get her healthy. She'll be home before you know it and you can snuggle away. Hugs, if she has to be in the hospital at all at least this is something pretty easy to treat.

  • I am so sorry. I wish it was going better for you. I think you did the right thing pushing for a more aggressive treatment because it is NOT ok for a baby to be limp and lethargic. You might ask Dr if he would ok an US of her liver because her numbers went back up. I am going in tomorrow for an US of W liver because he has low level jaundice still at 6 weeks. I hope she gets better soon. I'll be thinking of you.

  • (((Hugs))) Based on what you said, I would have chosen admission too.  I think you did the right thing.  Hopefully her bili levels will keep decreasing rapidly and she'll be right as rain and off to home for good soon.
