Baby Names

Thoughts?

Mordecai. I love it. It's Hebrew and means "warrior". I'd never use the NN Mordy/Morty, I'd probably, not definitely, use Cai.

What do you think? I have it on my list as a MN but it's growing on me.

Re: Thoughts?

  • I think it's alright as a MN but it's a bit much as a FN.
  • I don't like it.

  • I had friends in HS with that as a last name. I also picture a 95 year old man telling war stories... Sorry, but it's no good by me.

  • I kinda like it. It sounds very Jewish to me though, maybe because of the writer Mordecai Richler.

  • I know it's a bible name, but I just don't like how it sounds. Reminds me of Malachi (and the creepy Children of the Corn movie). It's awful how bad associations can ruin names for me.

  • Mordecai isn't a bad name. I associate it with sorcery for some reason. lol
TTC since 2004, Ectopic 2005, lost right tube. Multiple miscarriages. Baby girl born June 2013.
  • It gives me the creeps!
  • I don't mind it. It's not something I would use, though.

  • It's actually Persian because this was during the 'Babylonian Captivity' and they had to use Persian names (like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego- those were not their Hebrew names).

I guess because of that I don't really care for it.  It seems like it wouldn't really be honoring Hebrew heritage/faith/culture although that's probably incorrect because I guess it's used fair enough.

I feel like the nn Cai is much too trendy for such an old name.  Kai is a legit name, I would just use it.

  • Sounds like it'd be great for a pet. A little rough for a kid...

  • Mordecai Richler is a fantastic namesake. I would assume Jewish, but that's not a bad thing to assume, even if LO is not Jewish.

THIS is exactly what I thought

  • I'm with pps - it sounds harsh. Not a fan, sorry. Perhaps as a MN it isn't too bad.

Yep, my first thought is the falcon from The Royal Tenenbaums. I don't hate it but I wouldn't use it.
