As far as I know, the first use of this name in English was in Longfellow's poem Evangeline, so you could very well say that it is American English in origin. I'm not sure how far back other languages may have used Evangelina.
Obviously I love the name! My daughter is Evangeline Rachel and we call her Evie for short. I loved the meaning after dealing with IF for so long, she was our good news! Everyone always compliments me on her name. I love that it's a bit different but still not made up. I do get people pronouncing it wrong, but not too often... they say EEvanjuhLINE instead of EEvanjuhLEEN. Nothing awful though.

Reminds me of Evangeline Lilly (Kate from Lost). I'm Christian and wouldn't have necessarily jumped to the Christianity connection though. I think it is a nice name!
If you like this name make sure you watch Nanny McPhee. You will fall even more in love with it. The character is so lovely!
I love the name! Have you thought of any NN? I am curious.
I have seen it actually! That's where I got it from haha. I think it is so pretty and fits the character well.
I love it. I pronounce it evangeLINE not EvangeLEEN. I first heard of it through my grandma, it was her best friend's name and they called her Angie. I like the nickname Evie prn EVee.

I adore this name and think it would be a nice alternative to "jean" my grandmother's name. BUT, DH said this exactly.
