Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone else with a butt scooter?

So my 3rd is apparently a butt scooter, lol...he started out his "mobility journey" by turning in circles on his bum.  Now he has branched out to distance destinations (all over the bottom level of our house) on his BUTT.  My other 2 were classic cross crawlers, so this is new to me, and I'm curious is this something to be concerned about or just the way some babies crawl?

Re: Anyone else with a butt scooter?

  • DD was a but scooter. She skipped classic crawling completely and went from butt scooting to standing and walking at 10 months. I think she finally got the classic crawl when she was 13 or 14 months old. Poor thing looked so awkward doing it.

  • My DS is starting to do that, he leans forward and sometimes lands on his stomach but hates it and always hated tummy time.  So I have assumed he will skip crawling but obviously I don't know for sure.  He has always liked to  stand and is attempting to pull up on things those isn't getting too far yet.

  • Yup, that's exactly what I have, too! He's even graduated to these butt scootches where he does like a hip thrust to bump himself forward. It's hilarious to watch.

He's on all fours a lot but I really don't think he'll classic crawl before he walks. All he wants to do is stand and can stand on his own for 20 second bursts. Yesterday he grabbed my fingers and took a couple of steps. I don't care when or what he does-- it's just fun watching him figure things out!

  • DD is a butt scooter. She hates laying down (especially on her tummy) and would much rather sit or stand, so I figure that's why she scoots.
