Pregnant after 35

Intro from and "old timer"

I used to post a few years back on TTC after 35, TTC after Loss, and a few others. I actually see some familiar names here!

My story is a little complex but net-net, I found out this morning I'm pregnant. I was in such disbelief that I took 6 pregnancy tests, and then another one tonight. LOL

One of the questions I have is when I was pregnant before (and undergoing fertility treatments) they put me on Prometrium for low progresterone. I'm not currently being seen by the Fertility Doc, but am thinking I should ask for them to test my progesterone... Thoughts?

Anyway, I had more written on my complex story but will save that for another time. Meantime, congrats to you all!

  • Congrats and Welcome! My opinion is the extra progesterone doesn't hurt and can certainly help so why not have the added protection of taking it for the first tri. Maybe you can call your old RE and ask let them know you got a bfp and wanted to get your hcg and progesterone checked.

  • Hi! I remember you from way back when also...Congratulations on a surprise BFP, how exciting!

I would second McIrish, I would definitely get P4 checked. I started out on progesterone suppositories 3 times a day and my level was still only at 17 (without it it was normally 6 or 8 if I was lucky).  I am now on the suppositories as well as 2ccs of PIO every night and my progesterone is holding steady at 40.  My new RE thinks this is why I was having problems conceiving before. I don't know if he is right, but I'm pregnant now, and I wasn't before, so I'll just go based on that.

    Welcome back to the boards!

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

  • Thank you for all the responses. Big Hello and Hugs to McIrish, irishgirl, and Haribo. McIrish - I am so sorry for all you've been through! You are one tough cookie. Best of luck on Thursday... let us know how it goes!

I tried calling my RE's office today but weekends are for emergencies only. I will call both my OB and RE on Monday morning and see what I can get scheduled. The one thing I have comforting me is that the one time I did get pg when I was trying before my progesterone was fine that month. It was low other months but not the cycle we got pregnant.

Many other familiar names so hello and BIG hugs to you all! xoxo

  • I took progesterone pills orally for the first 14 weeks.  I was only aware that my level was low because they tested it for a few months before I became pregnant.  I'm now 15 wks. pregnant, and everything is fine.
  • hi and Congrats!! I take Prometrium orally once per day. My OB prescribed it to me while TTC b/c i was low. I used to take it daily after I ovulated. So far I'm testing good levels.

My heart is as open as the sky.

  • winterbride!! hello! I remember you from the Mc/PL board. So happy to see you on here. Congratulations!

Update: I went in to the RE;s office today for blood-work. Won't get it back until tomorrow afternoon since it was so late in the day. Then I'll go back Wed for my second blood. If it increases by 66% they'll schedule me for a 6 1/2 week ultrasound appt. I'm so happy to at least be doing something. I realize that all new expectant moms feel that way and I'm very thankful that the RE's office would take me back even though I wasnt an active patient with them.

  • Wow! Congrats on your surprise bfp! I've passed thru this board in the past year but I like to lurk to find new arrivals of old timers from ttc over 35. As for your question, I'd get your progesterone checked and supps if low.
