Allergic to the oats or the wheat?

So after a long hard road worth of rashes, hives, itchies and the like I figured out that DS was breaking out badly when I would give him his baby oatmeal cereal. So here is the question...is he allergic to the actual oats or the wheat? How would I go about figuring this out...subject him to another wheat based food and see what happens? I'm not up on all the food allergies because the only ones that we have is DH is allergic to shrimp (he gets chest pains), but everything else is fair game. I'm just not sure how to proceed in introducing him to foods (barley cereal, homemade teething cookies, mulitgrain cereals, pasta (in a few months that is). Dr. is no help here so I'm hoping to get some info from you ladies. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm confused - you're giving him oatmeal cereal, right?  Where does the wheat come in?  Is it a blend of wheat and oat?  Or are you also giving him wheat products separately?

Hi there!  My daughter was eating oatmeal that listed wheat in its ingredients and after 4 months of eating it she started breaking out on her forehead too.  Lots of little red bumps and some psoriasis on the back of her head.  I stopped giving her oatmeal and it went away.  I attribute it to gluten (wheat, rye, barley and oats) because I have Celiac disease and need to be on a gluten free diet.  Plus lots of people in my family have a gluten sensitivity.  So she is now on a gluten free diet too.  I think the best way to be sure would be to give him food with wheat to see if you have you the same reaction.

@Irishnicki....My son has the same issue and has eczema on his face. When you stopped feeding him oatmeal, how long did it take for the bumps to go away? Stupid question but will rice cereal do the same?
