Bottles

Anybody's LO still attached to the bottle?

I'm having the worst time breaking him of his addiction :(

Re: Bottles

  • DD still has one at night.  I tried to break her from it and she wouldn't go to sleep.  We are going to try again after the New Year.

  • How many bottles does your LO still have in a day? If it's still a lot I'd definitely work on it. If it's only one or two, meh. whatever. Everyone has a bad habit.

I know a good share of kids that were 2 before they gave up the bottle completely.

It's not the end all be all, the Bump can make it out to be sometimes.

Everything in time. Slow and steady.

  • We aren't but only because she weaned herself at 14 months. I would have no problem giving her one if she still wanted it.

  • LO only gets a bottle in the morning because I'm way too tired to fix anything else at the time he wakes up. So for selfish reasons. Besides, this is the only time of day he will cuddle with me while he is drinking it and I love it.

  • DS still gets a night time bottle.  I'm planning on weaning in January, when he turns 18 months.  The other bottles werent a problem, so I'm hoping that goes the same way.

He has a morning, night, and before nap bottle. So usually 3.

Every once in a while, he'll get especially needy or something, and he'll want 1 extra, but he's mostly broken himself of that.

I had planned to break the habit already, but he's been awful about it, and with only 7 weeks until there's another baby in the house that will sometimes get bottles, it seems like kind of a waste of time at this point.

I wouldn't worry about it just yet. The kid has enough stress in his life coming up. :) Give it some time and play up the big brother aspect. "Bottles are for babies." It may or may not work but it's another angle to work with.

Don't stress about it. It's not a big deal at all.

  • It may have been really cruel, but after his 12 mo appt we just packed up all the bottles and went to only the sippy. He was upset for 3 very long days and didn't drink much during that time. But by the 4th day he had forgotten about the bottles. Even the bedtime one.

But yeah that was a crappy 3 days. :/. Hellish. I don't know why we were so adamant about stopping bottles. I guess because our dr pushed not using them anymore. Meh.

  • Yup, still 3 a day here too.  Same, morning after breakfast, before nap, and the last one before bed.  Our pedi said it was ok as long as it was kept under 16-18oz of WCM.  This way she is not drinking all her calories.  The big fear, she said, was that LO's would not be eating enough foods and not get a full diet because they are drinking too much WCM.  So, DD has a 4ozs for both AM and nap bottles and then 6oz for bedtime.  Sometimes if she hasn't eaten much during the day, I don't push/force her to eat, I'll give her an 8oz bottle before bed.  But, she rarely finishes it.

I had planned on doing this somewhere between 10-12 months, but being in my first trimester pregnant with morning sickness, it was just not the time for 3 days of no sleep.
I still haven't worked up the energy to go through the misery of his temper!

We dropped bottles at 12 months, but I am feeling the same way about the pacifier. I had planned on it being gone at one year, but I was just too miserable with 1st trimester nausea to even deal with it at that time. He has only used it in the crib for the longest time, and #2 might have one soon. I will wait and deal with this later on, just as you are waiting with bottles. He has enough big changes in his life coming.

  • Not attached, I'd say. Anything I put in the sippy cup she'll drink.

But I still give her 23 bottles a day of pumped milk. Just because its easier to slap a nipple on the bottle of pumped milk than it is to pour it into a sippy. I'm trying to minimize my dirty dishes here. Plus with a sippy, she can never get that last ounce or so. No_fucking way I'm letting her waste an ounce if BM.
