I am beyond nervous, like to the irrational point of crying. This may sound strange, but through a lot of my pregnancy with Abby, I just had a gut feeling that she was going to be a child with special needs. And boy is she special! ) I don't feel any of those intstincts at all, which kind of reassures me. But at the same time, we had one child with a genetic mutation, there's an increased likelihood we will have another. Anyways, we are really excited to see LO again and hope and pray all is well! I'll update this later with a picture
Update: Baby looks great!! We saw LO moving all around, which I never remember Abby doing. It was so beautiful to see. The NT area was tiny and the doctor came in after she looked at the pics and is not worried about anything. They verified that there was a considerable nasal bone and protruding chin, which is great since Abby has almost a non-existent nasal bone and a tiny recessed chin.Baby has super long legs -- so hopefully tall like MH. Things are looking great!
We will have our level II anatomy scan on January 21st to determine gender and look in-depth at the organs. They told us they would even be able to see the lenses of the eyes and determine whether there are cataracts! So amazing! The HB was 156 today and Abby's was always in the 170s, so I'm thinking/hoping for a boy. )
Good profile and show tiny NT:
Loooong legs!!
Re: NT Scan this afternoon **UPDATE**
Did you get this information from a genetic counselor, or is this just an assumption? Based on my understanding of genetics, I don't think this is necessarily the case. Some mutations are just random, and the fact that a mutation occurred once has no bearing on the likelihood that a mutation will occur in the future (unless you have reason to suspect that you were exposed to something that might increase your likelihood for genetic mutations). Think of it like flipping a coin - the results of the first toss don't change the odds of a specific outcome in the second toss. The coin could come up heads 8 times in a row and your odds of it coming up heads/tails on the 9th toss are still the same as they ever were.
Of course, you obviously understand Abby's condition far better than I do (I haven't read about it specifically, I don't even know what its called). I just wanted to give you some encouragement. I totally understand why you're nervous - I would be nervous too. But this is a new situation and a new baby. There's no [purely logical] reason to be scared.
Big hugs and good luck this afternoon. If your second kiddo is half as cute as Abby, you're a blessed mama
Thanks Dr. Worm! We have spoken Abby's geneticist and she basically said that there's no way we would have another child with Abby's genetic syndrome, but because I already had one "bad egg or sperm" we might be more likely to have another one. Does that make sense?

fingers crossed that things go smoothly, though I know you'll be a great mom for your little one no matter how things come out today!
Makes sense, but I still wouldn't be too worried about an increased risk compared to the rest of the population. But that's just me.
Your opinion means a lot, knowing your background! Thanks!

This! Good luck!
I like your gut instinct! I'd love to have a gir/boy combo like you. I'm pretty sure we'll be done after 2.
Yes, this! Since JG didn't reply, will you have a drink for me??
Yeah KuJay! So glad everything looks good!!! Love the pics of Abby's little brother or sister.
But I must add, this post is giving me baby fever. And I don't think it's time for us yet!

Yay! Great news!!
Im going with boy too this time. FWIW, I've been right every time on my DD's BMB for the last year. Like 8 babies so far.
This girls might not, but I sure will!!! Happy mommy deserves a drink toasted for her.
Awesome!!
That IS amazing! So cool too. I'm very happy that all went well. Our LOs HB is in the low 150s now and I too wonder if that means boy. (I know, Old-Wives Tale... but still).
Congrats!
