It's getting ridiculous - Updated

Back in the summer I posted about the police coming and taking away our upstairs neighbour.  It turned out to be a mental health/alcoholism issue, he was hospitalized and then a few months later went to rehab.  Well, apparently the mental health services have arranged to have the police do random check ins with our neighbour.  But he never wants to open the door for them, and they end up banging on our door (separate entrance) asking if we have access to his entrance, which we don't.  Each time we have to tell them to contact the property management company.  Last night they decided to do one of these check ins at 10pm as DH and I were going to bed.  If they had woken Lily, I was going to throw a fit (police don't exactly knock quietly on doors, it seems).  I told them we have no access and shut the door in their faces, pretty much.  I guess they never managed to get in last night, so they just came back but I'm pretty sure he's not even home right now (car is gone).  First, how is this an issue for the police?  We've been told he isn't a danger to himself or others.  His family just is trying to get him some help for his alcoholism and other issues.  Second, how come they can't make a note somewhere that we can't let them in and they should coordinate with the property management company to begin with since this neighbour is never going to open the door willingly?

Come on now, you are asking way too much! Stick out tongue

That sucks though with the loud pounding of the door.  That would annoy the sh*t out of me too.

  • I wonder if you could make an official complaint with the police station? That may work especially if you tell them that they are coming too late and waking your baby.

  • I would be pissed. Then again, I would probably post a note by my door saying "I don't know where the neighbor is. I don't have access to his home."

  • Call the department and ask to speak with whomever is assigned his case, maybe they can put a note in his file? Depending on the reception I got, I might be inclined to drop a line about how you feel harassed depending on how frequently this is actually happening and you really don't want to escalate things any further.

  • Like others have said call the PD.  There might be more going on there than you are aware too.

  • His family is probably asking for welfare checks if they haven't heard from him in a few days which is why cops would be showing up.

Also this. I'm not sure who told you about his condition but his status could change and item possible the person was misinformed or lying
  • All right, we just got some more info on what's going on.  He has a mental health worker assigned to him and they communicate (in person or on the phone) every day.  Every now and then, he drunkenly tells her he's going to kill himself and then she has to get the police to come out and check on him.  I guess he told her this yesterday, hence why they came last night and today.  They just hauled him off because he was drunk off his ass and when he's that drunk they have to take him in.  But he's only a danger to himself, completely non-violent when it comes to everyone else.

Yet another reason to want to buy a house. . .

    I would post something too.

    I am annoyed for you.
