I posted about this previously, and due to some of the helpful responses I received I thought I would make a poll to get an idea of what the masses think.
DS is James - not Jim or Jimmy (unless he chooses to use these nicknames later in life). If baby #2 is a boy, we like the name Timothy, but I do imagine shortening this to Tim or Timmy. So, the question is:
Re: sibling nicknames poll
Baby Name Popularity by State
James and Tim are fine, but I don't like Jim and Tim.
I say stick with Timothy nn Tim if that's what you like and keep James (not Jim or Jimmy) unless others later in life nn him. More than likely if you call him James, that's the name that will stick.
I didn't think about Jamie, which I do prefer to Jimmy.
And someone else made a good point that, if he knows his younger brother is Tim/Timmy, he probably wouldn't want to "copy" him by adopting the nickname Jim/Jimmy.
But the poll is still pretty even! I guess a fair amount of people think it's a deal breaker.
If you call DS James, then it's not as liikely that others will randomly call him Jim. Timothy will almost def get shortened to Tim.
FWIW, I prefer the nn Jamie over Jim anyway.

I voted no; we have taken Frederick and Edward off our list since we already have a Theodore.
However, PP makes a good point that older brother may not choose to use a diminutive that rhymes with his younger brother when he grows up.
But what if he does because they think it is cute/funny? That would drive me nuts then!
Interesting how the results are pretty even between yes and no, but most of the responses were from the yes people. It makes me feel more apt to use the name, even though the votes were really half and half!
Thanks again everyone.
Jim and Tim together would not be my favorite.
James could be Jay?? if you're set on on TImothy!
Jay and Tim, Jay and Timmy? both sound nice
