Trying to Get Pregnant

B6

Hey ladies - I started taking B6 on cd 2 this cycle...the past 2 cycles I've had 9 day LP.  Just wondering if anyone had any success stories or input about taking B6 to lengthen LP.

I have been googling all morning and also read that Red Raspberry Leaf tea can extend LP...anyone else heard this?

TIA

Re: B6

  • Make sure to OK with your doc. But I took one a day for my short LP this summer. I got KU (ended in m/c) the first cycle I took it. My LP was around 10 days before the b6.

That's for the info ladies - glad to hear it works sooner rather than later!

  • I actually just came on here to ask about B6. Does anyone know, or have a good reference resource, if you are OK to take it for your entire cycle, or if you should just take it until O?

From my obsessive googling, the conclusion seems to be to take it the whole cycle.  Some say to even increase it during the 2ww....but most say take between 50 mg and 100 mg all through your cycle and DO NOT STOP if you get a BFP....most say ween gradually.

You can take it your whole cycle and some Drs will actually prescribe it to help with morning sickness! OP, it worked for me, I think. It's hard for me to pinpoint what helped. I had an 8 day LP, then weaned my son, got pregnant, had a miscarriage, had a 7 day LP, then my last cycles have been 11 days. I got pregnant again on the 11 day LP and had another miscarriage. You need to take the B6 with other B vitamins for it to work properly though.

Mobile bumping so I can't highlight but agreed you need to take it with a multi or prenatal vitamin that has other B complexes so it is processed and also I have heard consuming caffeine uses up stored B6 so I would avoid if it possible! It is also water soluble so you need to get enough of it on a daily basis for it to work!

Your doctor didn't tell you how much and when you should be taking it...?

My dr told me to take 100 mg but said that most people get results for taking 50 mg - 100 mg.  She didn't mention when to take it - probably because it's safe to take during the whole cycle.

  • Funny this was asked, I've been wondering about it too and actually just saw my doctor this morning with regards to my wonky spotting cycles.  My last two cycles I spotted every day for the 8-9 days before my period, and of course I'm concerned about that, and that I seem to have shorter cycles (21 days) with a shorter LP (11 days).

Anyways, I asked my doc about B6 and he didn't seem to know about that in relation to stopping the spotting.  He wasn't particularly concerned about the spotting anyways, he looked at my charts and was impressed with my clear temp shift showing that I was pretty likely ovulating, and said spotting after ovulation likely has no effect on implantation or holding on to a pregnancy.  He said for some women spotting is just their 'norm', and as I'm still within a few months of coming off BCP and spotted while on BC too, my body might still be adjusting and spotting is just what I do.  Because I'm 39, he said if nothing happens in 3 months, we can start looking into things more closely.

Of course, in this case my doctor's usual 'wait and see approach' just isn't sitting right with me, especially when everything I read seems to say there might be something to spotting in the LP pointing to problems.  I'd like to do anything I can to prevent funky spotting and possible effects that might have on implantation, so I ended up going to see my pharmacist who is always very knowledgeable and helpful, and he said (as PP has said) that B6 is water soluble so it wouldn't be something you could really get too much of.  He did say to stick to a lower dose (50 mg) just because he always thinks 'less is more' especially to start, and also to take it opposite of my prenatal supplement (i.e. 12 hours apart).

  • I was wondering about B6 too. I started drinking red raspberry leaf tea this cycle. I love tea, though, and am mainly drinking it because of all the vitamins in it and how it tastes. So no idea what it does to a person's LP! Mine was 9 days the cycle before last and 11 days this past time, but I just started the tea so the change wasn't from that.

My post was really no help at all lol.

Good luck and let us know how it works for you if you decide to start taking it!

  • I asked my dr. about B6 because my LP was ranging from 7-9 days.  She didn't sound like she thought it would do much but she gave me the green light to give it a shot.  I can't say that it was definitely the B6 that did it, but mine gradually got up to 10, which I was thrilled about.  If you're already at 10 you probably don't need to worry about the B6.

  • I can't really comment on B6, as I take it in a B complex mostly for mood/stress, nothing to do with LP. I do drink raspberry leaf tea days 1-14 as prescribed by my naturopath (who is an MD). This wasn't with the purpose of lengthening LP either. Raspberry leaf's primary function is a uterine tonic - meaning it's healthy for your uterus but better not to mess with it in your 2WW.

Your doctor is not likely to be gung-ho on any of this stuff - many Western docs won't be interested/knowledgable about the subject. But definitely consult to make sure they aren't against it and it doesn't contradict anything else you're doing/taking.

    Good luck!

  • I took the B6 my entire cycle and continued to take it after my BFP since it helps with morning sickness.
