I am thinking about these for night time. I have tried wool and I'm just not liking it. There are some cute fleece covers on etsy right now and super cheap. $7 per cover.

We've been using fleece soakers I made from Kartina's soaker pattern overnight and sometimes during the day. I really like them. I'm still planning to try wool longies for overnight whenever I get around to getting the wool wash to lanolize the ones I've made, but the fleece soakers are working well for now. My 14lb long and thin DS uses a medium during the day over infant sized prefolds and a large overnight over a motherease fitted with a small gcloth acting as a stay dry doubler.
He's been in the overnight set up for 12 hours at a stretch and wakes up dry on outside with zero redness.

My sister made a bunch of fleece covers using this pattern. During the day, do you only have your LO in the soaker or is it under his clothing? I've heard that compression leaks can happen.
Also, I'm curious if these will work as good as say a Thirsties/Bummies cover will. I know in the beginning we'll be changing frequently so it might not matter, but what about containing poop? I love that their breathable, cheap, and cute, but hesistant to rely on them for longer than a couple of hours.

I can snap a onesie over the soaker, but during the day at home I just put him in a shirt and leggies, but he's never felt damp on the outside. I did make them with the extra wet zone layer.
The only time I've ever had poop come up the back was in a fleece soaker though. In all fairness, it was days worth of poop and he was sitting in a bumbo when he did it. He was wearing a fitted I made with elastic in the back, but a little got out of the elastic and the soaker's waistband wasn't enough to catch it. It might also be because the mediums barely fit him and the seam of the waistband was not higher than the diaper. I think if the seam had been above the diaper, that would have caught it.
A pull on soaker is a little harder to deal with than an aplix wrap, but I don't mind. I still use Flip covers when we go out or if I don't feel like dealing with the pull on. But I do like having him in the breathable fleece when I can.
