Parenting after a Loss

At what point...

Do you think the babes really "watch" the tv.  I want to make sure I stop having the tv on so often when Raylan is old enough to really pay attention to it...when is that?  And what do you do all day at that point? Haha.  I don't watch all day...but more than I'd like to admit once I've picked up around the house.

  • With my oldest we always had the TV on but she never really watched it. They say don't let them watch until they're 2, which is about the time she actually paid attention. then there is my brothers kid who is 9 months old and they have him watch tv and he will actually get upset if you get in his way or turn it off. I think it has a lot to do with the parents.

  • I keep it on all day too. I need noise! LOL If I see her paying too much attention to it, I will turn it off. I have learned that Star Wars is her favorite. She can't look away. Disney Jr? Not so much. LOL I'm a proud geeky mom! :D

  • I've been wondering that too sometimes he'll stare at the tv but I think it's more of the lights that attract him and I'm not sure if that's different from the lights on his toys or not... I was thinking cutting off the tv watching when he's not sleeping at 3 months of course I'll be going back to work at that point so I won't have to worry about what to do

  • DD tries to look at the TV alot when DH and I are watching, probably because of the movement and the lights.I turn her away whenever I can, but it's really only on during the day when I'm nursing. My screen troubles are totally the computer!

I also think there's a BIG difference between having the TV on as ambiance, or when you're watching, and intentionally putting LO in front of the TV. That's something I hope to avoid doing until she's at least two, because they really do zone out and they don't get anything out of it :(

  • I think DD was about 3 months old when I noticed her actually paying attention to the tv.  I would have it on for a little bit during the day to have background noise, but once I noticed her "watching", that was the end of that.  She is now 18 months and we have a strict no tv policy.  There isn't much we wouldn't do back then!  I wore her in the carrier while I cooked, cleaned, or did yardwork.  We went to playgroups, to the park, to visit family, or to do errands.  We would read books, sing songs, have time on the playmat or with toys, go for walks, we did bathtime during the day back then to take up some time.  Lots to do!  Now I can't even imagine having the tv on during the day - no time to sit down! lol....  GL!
