TTC After a Loss

Tea question

Ok ladies....I know many of you drink tea. I do here and there, much more of a coffee drinker. If this has been asked before, please forgive me, but I've been doing lots of research on herbal teas and ttc/and or first tri. Basically, since my throat is sore, I'm CRAVING Starbucks Calm tea....has chamomile, spearmint and other herbs, and I read chamomile tea may be a no no during 2ww, first tri, etc. Anyone know anything about this?? Thoughts?

I made it to 1 prental class and she said chamomile was a huge NO-NO while pregnant. I had absolutely no idea since I hadn't read it anywhere. I was actually really shocked and disappointed because it's my go-to when I have a sore tummy or a cold.

Apparently, chamomile can bring on pre-term labour. Not sure if it applies to the 2WW though.

  • This is the website I found while researching several months back

    https://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/herbaltea.html

I think most of the concern is that it's unknown whether or not most herbs can cause harm.

Although, if it makes you feel any better, my ex-BFF chugged all kinds of teas (including green) along with Diet Coke her entire pregnancy, and her kid turned out fine.

ETA: Looks like MD beat me to the website!

  • Thanks for all of the info, girls. I swear, as if we need another thing to take off the list. Men don't have to avoid anything....us? Hot baths, too much coffee, too much tea, sushi, blah blah. Can't a girl have some hot tea for her sore throat? The answer is yes....I'm just going to have a small cup. Oy!
  • I researched this a lot when I was pg. I'm a tea girl. I cannot get my day started without it. Caffeine aside, I agree with the ladies above - there's not much about a cup or two that should cause much concern. I'm pretty sure I used the website linked by md.

If you do feel a bit edgy about it, you could always  just have warm water and honey in it, or take the tea bag out after it steeps a little.
