Vitamin D

I hope this hasn't been asked already.  I am EBF my 2 1/2 wk old baby girl and at her last drs appt I was told to give her a vitamin D supplement twice a day because formula has it added but breast milk may not have enough.  I thought the purpose of EBF is that everything they need is included.  Is anyone giving their baby the supplement and what are you using?

Yup I use d drops and you just place a drop on your nipple before a feed. I only give it to DS once daily as per the instructions on the bottle. It's also good because this time of year, where I live anyway, it's cold and there's not much opportunity for baby to get sunlight.

The issue isn't that BM itself is good enough, it's that we as a society (especially in the USA) have low levels of Vit D period. We don't get enough natural sunlight during the day, and especially not in the winter time.Therefore, you lack Vit D to pass on. I put a couple drop on my food everyday, and I put a drop into my LO's daycare bottles. If you are nursing only, then the pp is correct to put on nipple or a drop in their mouth if they tolerate the taste

DD got really fussy with the Enfamil DViSol we got at Target so we switched to the Carlson's baby D drops we found them on Amazon but I've heard you can get them at vitamin stores too. The Carlson's only call for one drop instead of the whole dropper full with the DViSol.

DS has not trouble taking the enfamil Tri-Vi-Sol.  We give it to him once a day.

Our pedi insisted BF babies need vit D. The Carlton's drops (amazon) are SO easy to give. DS loves to open his mouth for them! One bottle will last a year.

We use the Enfamil D-Vi-Sol and my LO loves to open his mouth for them too! He even leans in to the dropper. I like to wait for a fussy moment and then pull those suckers out. Quiets him right down.
