Breastfeeding

Overbite

After 2 months of BF my baby still doesn't latch well. I've seen a LC 4 times (2 different women). They both say his latch looks great but it's still uncomfortable and he creases my nipple so it looks like lipstick when it comes out. The last LC I visited mentioned he had an overbite. So at his 2 month appointment today I asked the Dr about it and he said baby does have an overbite. Does anyone have experience with this or have any helpful latching tips for an overbite? Or is this just something thats going to ruin BF for us? I plan on talking to the LC again but she is on vacation right now.

Re: Overbite

  • Yeah, it takes forever for him to eat because we relatch so many times and we both get frustrated. Then if I ever get it comfortable he will change what he is doing inside his mouth after about a minute and it hurts again. After doing a weighed feeding he has only gotten about 1.5 to 2oz after having both breasts. So he doesn't gain well and I have to supplement. I have refused to give up all this time and everyone around me thinks I'm crazy for just not doing formula. But I really don't want to give up that BF relationship with my baby.
