I had the Mirena for a whopping 6 weeks. I constantly worried about it messing up my body, but sometimes I wish I would have just left it in.
Today I saw a commercial, you know the kind...The kind of commercial where a serious voice talks about the dangers of Mirena and then says "If Mirena has done this to you, the manufacturer could be liable"
Anyone worried about the Mirena? I was thinking about getting the Paraguard because it's hormone free, but I am not so sure. Anyone have the Paraguard? How how it been for you?
Re: Anyone worried about the Mirena?
I have always been nervous about IUDs, just because of how they hang out in there, the risks and PERSONALLY (just me here, folks)... feeling weird about it allowing an egg to fertilize bit not implant.
That said, ignore those commercials... it's just hawkish lawyers trying to find money after hearing one or two people had an issue with x, y or z.
1) OP, your siggy is killing me. Your DD is too adorable for words.
2) I had the Paraguard for less than a year. It made me crampy and I just overall didn't like it. I had the Paraguard because I wanted to steer clear from any type of BC that had hormones in it and because DH and I suck at using condoms (hello BFP #3!).
3) I know Mirena is super safe and all, but I just can't shake off the "not having a period just isn't right" feeling.
A year and a half later, an OB finally took the spotting and pain seriously and didnt tell me that it was normal and I was a wimp. Surgery sucked but I am myself agin. I just hate that I have to pay when they were so nasty to me.
I had the Paraguard before DS, and it was ok. My cramps were mildly worse during my period. I may try it again, because the hormones really got to me with the Mirena.
Okay, from my personal experience with Paraguard and Mirena (yes, I've had both) is:
I loved the fact that paraguard didn't have hormones but my periods were so heavy, I would soak up a pad and tampon within two hours.
Mirena, on the other hand, was great because i didn't have a period (or a very light one) but I hated the fact that it had hormones because it turned me cray.
So with that being said, everyone's body is different, so the paraguard might not make your periods super heavy but that is definitely a risk you are going to take by getting it because it's a common side effect. If your body responds well to hormones then I would just stick with the mirena. As far as the commercial goes, I'm not too concerned with it because quite frankly, there aren't very medications that don't have potential harmful side effects, including every other BC out there but there are still millions of people taking them without issues. You're taking a risk for a harmful side effect regardless of what medication you take.
Sounds like you're the one needing to call those people on the commercials! Holy cow!
