redness underneath nipple

After nursing, my nipple looks red/bruised on the underneath. This happens both with and without the use of a nipple shield. LC said baby's latch looks good....so what's causing the redness? I'll bring it up again at my next LC appointment, but wondering what you ladies would suggest.

    Is it painful?  I have that too on one side, but it doesn't hurt so I haven't really worried about it.

    IUI#1 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 3-7) = BFP, m/c
    IUI#2 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 5-9) = BFN
    IUI#3 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 3-7) = BFP!
    beta #1 11/23 = 270, P4 = 75
    beta #2 11/28 = 2055
    Our daughter E was born 7/29/2012!
    Surprise, our 2nd daughter P was born 5/22/14!

    It is painful during and right after feeding, but soon goes away. Just hoping it doesn't get worse over time.
