Minnesota Babies

Where to buy....

I am wondering where everyone is buying maternity clothes? I live in the south metro and the big chain stores don't have a maternity section. Kohl's has a total of 3 racks. I know there is always motherhood, just wondering if there was anywhere else! Thanks :

Re: Where to buy....

  • Have you checked out Bellies to Babies? Also check out Target.
  • I second Target.  Also, I would recommend checking out Gap.  The Baby/Kids Gap store at Mall of America has a good sized maternity section in the back of the store.  They usually have pretty big sale/clearance racks.  I got some great jeans there that I wore my entire pregnancy.

Also, I would recommend online shopping.  You will find much better selection online than in stores.  I got a good bulk of my maternity clothes, more casual stuff, from Old Navy.  They have a maternity section at their Mall of America store, but I got much better prices and selection online.

  • I would second Old Navy online.  Not many of their stores have a maternity section, and those that do, the section isn't very big.  Also, Old Navy seems to have sales all the time and generally has a 30% off sale once a month.   I got the majority of my stuff from Old Navy.  I got a few things at Macys which is essentially Motherhoods clothes.

  • I buy most of mine online.  JC Pennys, Old Navy, Motherhood Maternity, etc.
  • NINE maternity consignment store in Hopkins is worth checking out, I got some great stuff there when I was pregnant with my DD. My neighbor recommended Destination Maternity at MOA but that could be pricier depending on budget. I live really close to Bellies to Babies and plan to check them out once I start needing maternity this time around.

  • There's a maternity store in the new outdoor mall in Woodbury (BuyBuyBaby is in the same mall)...  Sears MOA has a decent selection of maternity clothes...

I ended up ordering all of my maternity clothes from JCP online because I couldn't find my size otherwise.

  • I got a lot of hand-me-downs, but most of the things I bought came from Motherhood. I thought they had a good selection of stuff and were reasonably priced. I too found that most department stores had a small or nonexistent maternity section, and sometimes things were more expensive than they were at Motherhood. I do remember buying a pair of slacks, which I think came from the JC Penney at Southdale, for about $25.

At one time, I browsed the new mega-maternity store at the Mall of America - which definitely has the largest selection I've seen - but I thought the prices were too high for my liking. I also didn't find a lot of stuff that appealed to me, as I usually like classic/basic styles of clothing.

I also noticed the Target near us had a small maternity section, and a lot of the clothes they had seemed to match what I usually like (and had prices comparable to Motherhood), but I'm not sure I actually bought any maternity clothes from there.

  • I bought the vast majority of my maternity clothing at NuLook Consignment and Bellies to Babies. I think I got a couple of pieces at Old Navy (there's a maternity dept. at the Old Navy at MoA and Knollwood) and a couple of nursing bras from Motherhood Outlet in Albertville.

I refused to pay full price for something I was only going to wear for 3-6 months.

  • Anyone have suggestions for the south Metro?  I live in Northfield and while I would love handmedowns, I am tall and all my friends are not.  I guess I'm probably good in the tops but will need to be buying work slacks and jeans/etc along the way.  We do have about 8 racks in our Target, but again, I'm tall and they seem to cater to the shorter set for most of their items (I went to buy a belly band there and the largest they had was a L - might work now, probably not in 4 mos...  TIA
