XP: Tongue Tie

Anyone's LO have tongue tie and have it clipped? We just had this done today (I think I was as upset as my poor baby was...it was not easy to watch and hear her scream!!!!) Just wondering what the recovery was like. Did you see an immediate improvement in your LO's ability to nurse? She's been REALLY fussy this afternoon; I'm guessing it's because they clipped skin in her mouth. Did you notice pain after the first day, or was it an easy recovery?

From what I've heard on the BF board, the improvement is pretty quick. Sending good vibes your way. GL hon.

I was tongue tied, and from what my Mum told me the recovery was reasonably quick. Your mouth heals a lot faster than other parts of the body, and you should notice some improvement in the next few days. Also, if you worry about any long-term issues, I've had none whatsoever. That is, unless you count being able to stick my tongue out further than others a set-back. Lol...

I can't comment on helping in the ability to nurse since we had additional problems unrelated to the tongue tie. But the recovery was quick. After the initial clip, my DS was just fine. I think it was worse on us!!

Oh, I meant to add... the doctor did say that improvements could take a little while since the baby has to to get used to the changes, too. So don't get frustrated if the results aren't instant.

OMG yes, I was a mess!!! Still crying last night when she would cry...I hated that she was in pain and I couldn't fix. Other than to offer her a boob, which seemed to help!

THanks! I'm going to go back to the LC now, and hope she can help me with her latch, now that we've got the tongue issue fixed!

Sorry, no advice but hope your LO recovers quickly and the latch issue is resolved!

Had my sons tongue and lip ties clipped on the same day. He was pretty much himself the next day and his healed super fast the amazing power of Bm. He's still nursing 10 months later so I would say it worked fabulously. Our doctor included "exercises" to stretch the tissue to prevent regrowth in the first week. I would def do those if you were given them. Good luck!
