Catch and Release

My DS is just over 2 months old, BF his entire life. He has always been a good nurser, latches on like a barracuda, and will suckle for an hour if I let him.

The last 2 days he has been nursing for 5 minutes, then doing what I call "catch and release" with my nipples. He flings his head all over (still holding my nipple - ouch!) loses or releases the nipple, the starts trying to get it back or crying for it.

If I keep latching him back on, this won't stop until I finally DON'T latch him back on.

What gives? Has my supply tanked? Will it if he keeps nursing for only 5 minutes at a time? 

FTM here, and I'd like to keep nursing my LO for at least a year. Any advice, information or tips would be appreciated. TIA.

My LO does the EXACT same thing (I started a thread about it down below). Interested to see what other people think it is!

My LO does this often when she is gassy. I stop to burp her and give her gas drops. I then just try back later. Sometimes she also does this when she's refluxing as a sign that she's done nursing. Either way I stop, burp, and try again later. She'll nurse with more focus once she's hungrier and has cleared her gas.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I missed the earlier post, I'll try looking for it to see if there's any other thoughts.

He isn't gassy, but he does have reflux. Maybe that's it. Well, I'll keep trying.

My kiddo started doing the same thing over the weekend. It is annoying. I am not sure why, as my supply and letdown both seem fine (I pumped the same amount today that I had last week). He seems to do it more when he's really tired.

About that age lo gets much better at nursing and is probably done after five mins. He probably still wants to suck and is mad milk is still coming out.
