I hate homework. Rant!

I don't know if all schools use school-view, basically it is a website that lets you spy on your kids and know the second they forget to turn something in.  Well I took Oliver's word that he had no homework over the holiday.  Big. Fat. Liar.  I just saw on school-view that he was supposed to rewrite his biography on Orville and Wilbur Wright and turn it in today.  I emailed the teacher and she is extending it a day.  Usually I just let Oliver do his homework on his own and not interfere, he gets goods grades, but when stuff needs to get redone, I get involved.

His paper was a complete disaster!Tongue Tied  I'm surprised he got a d minus.  I just spent three hours re-doing the whole paper with him, he was not happy.  At least this means MH has to go sell Christmas trees with the Boy Scouts not me, I'm done for the night.

Re: I hate homework. Rant!

  • E's school has a site for each teacher but he rarely has homework so I never check it. There have been a couple times where she's told him something that he needs to do but not relayed it directly to me so I either have no clue what he's talking about or he just doesn't tell me. A few weeks ago I dropped him off and overheard his teacher say "E you still have that tattoo on your hand!". He got a rub on tattoo over the weekend and I had no idea they were against the uniform code so he'd had it for like 3 days. You'd think after the second day she would have realized the 5 year old hadn't told his mom.

That was really generous of the teacher to give him an extra day to do the paper!

  • I was the exact same way at his age. I'm so glad my parents did not have access to that. I flunked Jr. high social studies in 7th grade because I refused to study for our presidents tests, and nearly failed science b/c I didn't hand in tons and tons of work. Each week we had to go into the teacher's room and view the slide on the microscope and draw what we saw, I was so intimidated by the teacher I didn't want to do my slides, I got so far behind by the time my mom got involved and made me go in and do them, the first ones were too late for a grade.  In hindsight doing the work actually helped me, many of my classes have been in science and I've had to draw slides repeatedly, getting started in 7th grade was helpful, but I was shy at that point and hated going in that room, in front of another class, during their class, it made me nearly piss myself every time I did it (Not a joke, i had a really weak bladder and still peed myself often in jr. high - Once while I was giving my 8th grade science fair report! -Talk about bury me in a corner!)

Anyway, glad you were able to catch that and help him get his homework done!!

  • Haven't heard of that site but it sounds like a great idea. I have a few students who never have their homework even though their work is good otherwise, and they're always dashing out of class so I never see the parents.

I hope whatever school T goes to eventually has something like that available.  I like the idea of being able to check in if needed to make sure everything has been turned in.  Sorry you had to spend so long helping Oliver redo his paper, you're a great mom for sure!

I'm guessing T will.  We are in district 196.  You can pay fees online too like school lunches/sports.  The grades/homework/tardies part of the program doesn't start until middle school.

That's really nice to have all those online options!  We're in 197 but I'd like to move in the next 5 years at least.  We are already crammed in our little house and would like to have at least one more child.  Stupid housing crash though...I'm not sure if we'll be able to sell any time soon.  When/if we do move, I know school districts will be a big factor in where we go.

Wow, we don't live very far from you...We have probably crossed paths and not even known.

One of my friends runs the food service for Sibley High School I have made christmas cookies by the hundreds with her in the school kitchen.  I don't think 197 is a bad district, but I do know that they have had financial struggles in the past.  If your move doesn't happen as fast as you like 196 has a declining population of kids and is always looking for open enrollers and they are not too far away.  In fact Woodland in Eagan which the creme ala creme for elementary schools in our district needs more kids.

BTW-My mom and sister work in the district, I have to give them some more job security.  Stick out tongue
