Dogs and Babies

I am almost 20 weeks and lately my dogs have been acting out someting terrible.  We have a yorkie and a beagle.  The yorkie I am concerned about the most because he whines constantly and anything that raddles or makes a noise he wants and will bark and whine until he gets it.  The beagle has been extremely clingy to me which is cute but when he gets in my way or jumps in my car when he isn't going with me gets aggravating.  Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do or anything? Please help!  I want them to be well behaved when the babies come, I don't need the extra stress.

Re: Dogs and Babies

  • I have a 3 month old and two dogs a Chihuahua/rat terrier and a German shepherd/collie/ terrier and they reacted very similar to how you described. However, they have been great around my son since day one. They are calm and acknowledge him, but they leave him be. At first I think my Chihuahua/ rat terrier was a little upset that she had to share "her" lap with my son, but she has never acted out. Their bond has continued to grow. Now whenever my son cries for a bottle both of my dogs will cry too to emphasize to us that he needs a bottle. It is quite hilarious, as soon as the dogs start, my son stops almost as if he's like, "Oh, you're going to tell them for me? Thanks."

I think while pregnant the dogs are sensing the changes and they are doing their best to adjust and prepare. Hang in there. All will work out. :
