TTC After a Loss

On the Fence

Not sure if I should be here or not. Had a miscarriage 11/9 and the DH and I want to start immediately to try again. Doc hasn't told me yes or no and doesn't ever seem avail.

Is it OK to try again immediately? We are emotionally ready and I'm physically recovered. Any cons I should be worried about (other than it happening again)? Or any pros?

Re: On the Fence

  • I wouldn't until your doctor says yes or no. Sure, there are times when it's perfectly safe, but you should find out from your doctor. Your doctor needs to make him/herself available for something like this, IMO.

sorry for your loss.... it sucks to be in this place :(

ETA: I just noticed your loss history in your sig. I certainly wouldn't try again without talking to a doctor since this is your second m/c

  • the majority of women are told to wait one full cycle before trying again to allow their uterus & hormones to recover from the previous pregnancy- but everyone is different.  If you are going to try again right away, I would recommend making sure you have your betas tracked back down to zero (you can also do this at home with pregnancy tests - pee on them until they become negative)-- otherwise you may mistake remaining hormones left over from your miscarriage for a new pregnancy.

There's clicky polls on our blog that have answers from hundreds of women. There's also a ton of valuable information there. It's a good read https://ttcalblog.blogspot.com/p/for-newbies_22.html

Welcome. I'm sorry for your loss

ETA: this was your second loss? You should really have Repeat Pregnancy loss testing done. There's info  about that too also in the blog

  • First, I am so sorry for your loss. Big hugs! Secondly, to answer your question this is really something you should talk to your doctor about. Everyone has to wait a certain amount of time based on their circumstances. If you cannot get in to see your doctor you can usually call your dotors office and talk to one of their nurses. This is what I had to do after my appt. Hopefully you can get a hold of someone and get an answer soon!

Welcome, and sorry for your loss. There is a lot of good info in the TTCAL blog: https://www.ttcalblog.blogspot.com/p/for-newbies.html

It's really a question for your doctor, though. I know that's not a great answer. Keep after him (or her) to try and get your answer!

Thank you everyone! I called my doc and finally got a response. My betas were at 12 last week, they want me to come in tomorrow for another test and then in another week my doc will have a consultation with me to discuss the m/c.

Thank you for the link to the ttcalbog I am learning a lot. :)
