Care.com?

Anyone used it and found someone they like?  We're starting to think about our first real date night.  DH's birthday is in December, and we would love to see the Hobbit when it comes out.  We don't live near any family, and don't have enough close friends where we live that we could ask to babysit.  If you found a sitter this way, did you do a short trial sitting period?  Spend an hour or so together to see if they get along?  I have no idea how to do this.

We found our nanny on care.com. Had an initial interview w/ basic background check. Then did more extensive background check and had her do a date night trial run. Also checked her personal and professional references which were great.

I'm on the other side. I find clients through care.com. You can find some great people on there.

My old roommate and good friend from college is a fulltime nanny and started off with a profile on care.com. She now watches DS during the day and twins on nights and weekends.Sounds like you have the right idea by doing short trial sittings. I know a lot of interviews my friend went on involved the child so they could see how she interacted with them. Its worth a shot!
