TTC After a Loss

Recurrent Miscarriage Testing (living child mentioned)

Hi Ladies,

I intro'd and was here briefly this summer (but wasn't around much as I just sort of took a bump break around that time). I just found out today that I am having my second miscarriage. I was wondering, at what point did your Drs suggest repeat miscarriage testing for you? Also, did you do any testing with your OB or did you go straight to an RE? I was unable to speak with my Dr today, but she is supposed to call me later. Just to get a sense of how long I would need to wait to see an RE, I called one covered by my insurance and they could see me as soon as tomorrow. I adore my OB, but I think I'm wanting to at least meet with this specialist and see what he has to say. Just wondering what your experiences have been and what advice you have. It seems like there is some difference of opinion regarding whether testing should start after two losses or three. I do have a healthy 19-month-old son who was conceived (and I guess in my case, more importantly, carried) without complication.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Like PP mentioned the TTCAL has great information on RPL testing.

I was referred to an RE after my second loss, which my OB recommended as she does not do a full RPL panel or work up. I had to wait for my betas to be < 5 prior to completing our RPL workup. I scheduled my intital appt with RE 3 weeks after my miscarriage this way we could complete as much of the work up as possible. Hope you have some answers soon. ((hugs))

  • I am so sorry for your losses. I have no advice regarding testing, as although I have had 2 losses, the second was an ectopic and they don't count that for testing purposes.

I hope you get your answers soon.
