TTC After a Loss

2nd m/c...where to go from here?

Hi ladies... I hate that we are all on this board, but really appreciate knowing that there is a support group out there for this.

I just experienced my 2nd m/c, and I am just confused on what to do next. I had my d&c on Thanksgiving morning, but can?t get in with the doc that performed the surgery until Dec. 18th, and already my head is swirling on where to go from here, and what is next for the next pregnancy.

I don?t know if I should wait it out until Dec 18th, or see a maternal fetal specialist in the meantime to get some testing going.

Can anyone with recurrent m/c share their experiences on what the next steps are?

Just a brief history:

1st pregnancy ? baby stopped developing at 5 weeks, 5days ? natural miscarriage at 8 week mark

2nd pregnancy ? baby was going strong, with heartbeat until sonogram during week 9 revealed no heartbeat. Missed m/c ? d&c on thanksgiving. Doctor who performed surgery said placenta wall was thin.

I'm sorry that you are here.  It's just so not fair that anyone has to go through this more than once.  I wish I had answers about testing. My OB said she doesn't do testing until after 3 losses.  I know that the unknown is pretty nerve-wracking.  It couldn't hurt to give your doctor a call and ask them what tests they would be willing to do.

All of this.  It couldn't hurt to ask your OB for some investigation into why this may be happening.

    Sorry you're here :(

    PAIF/SAIF, PGAL/PAL welcome.
TTC since March 2010 ~ Dx Unexplained IF September 2011

IF testing, RPL testing, Autoimmune testing = all normal
    So lost.

  • I'm right where you are, unfortunately.

I have a follow up with my OB on Friday, and I already made an appointment with an RE for the following week on the 4th.

  • I am sorry for your losses and everything you are going through.  If I had another I would probably try to seek out some testing as well.  My OBGYN said she would do testing if I had another (so 2), but I hear 3 is the norm.  If she wouldn't I would probably seek it out elsewhere.  I hope you can find some answers.

I am so sorry you have to go through this, and even more sorry it's multiple times. Most Dr's will run tests on the tissue they found in the D&C so perhaps you'll have some answers from these tests.

  • I have no real answers regarding testing, my OB did say she'll start testing after a 2nd loss, however my 2nd loss doesn't count as it was an ectopic.

But I am sorry for your losses.

  • I'm so sorry!  What a horrible thing to go through, especially on Thanksgiving!

My m/c's were opposite yours... missed m/c 1st, natural 2nd.  I asked my OB at my f/u appointment about RPL testing, but he said they wouldn't do anything until a 3rd loss.

    I'm so sorry again!  (((HUGS)))

I also agree with this. So sorry for your losses. I went through a variety of OBs, none of which would do testing until 3 losses. We still have yet to get answers, as 50 of couples that experience RPL never do. Just so unfair.

    4 Losses (2003, 2008, Apr 2012, & Oct 2012)
All RPL and IF testing with multiple REs = normal

    5 IUIs = BFN

  • I'm so sorry for your losses. I posted a similar question above. I have made an appointment with an RE. Mostly because I thought it would take a while to get in, but they can actually see me tomorrow. I want to at least talk to him and see what he has to say about my situation. I may decide to stay with my OB if she will do testing, but I'm not sure. I like the idea of going to a specialist, as much as I truly do adore my OB. I will let you know what both my Drs say. Again, I am so truly sorry you are here again :-(

  • PLEASE keep me posted!!!!! I think I am going to have to wait it out until the 18th, but I am curious to see what yours says.

Thanks to everyone for their T&P's!
