Bumbo - age?

At what age / physical ability can your baby sit in the bumbo? We don't have one but I'm debating getting one as our LO loves to sit up. Right now we sit him up on our laps but I'd like to give DH another option when he can't hold him (physical disability issues). TIA!

Re: Bumbo - age?

  • I think its when they can hold their head up on their own, and start sitting up alone as well. It should say on the website.

    That seems way too young.

OP, you could prop LO up in your boppy, if you have one.

its only suggested. They also say not to use it if baby can't keep his/her head up. So, if at 6 weeks baby can't do that, then don't use it.

  • We got one at 3mos with Emberlynn. She was a little wobbly at first but loved it. I can't imagine putting Zoe in it for at least another month.

Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

  • DD is 7 weeks old, and I put her in it for the first time yesterday. She is towards the top of the percentiles - like 23 inches and over 12 lbs so she is very big. She loved it. If you prop their arms on the sides, then it increases the trunk and neck support, making it easier for them to only concentrate on their heads. You can't do it for too long, only a few minutes at a time as it is very tiring. But if your kid's head isnt constantly flopping over still, then it would work with close supervision and is good practice.

  • I would love to put my lo in the one i have. He does well with his head (it is his favorite activity) but he is still in the <1% at only 7 lbs and 20" at 7.5 weeks... i will have to wait.:-(

  • Make sure you get the one with the strap, there was a huge recall on those a few months ago.

Unless you get it secondhand they come with the straps now. If you get one secondhand and they didn't get the straps you can go to their website and order one through the recall.

  • We put Isaac in it for short periods of time right now. We started him in it at about 8 or 9 weeks.

Confession: I don't have the safety strap and I have zero intention to get one Surprise
